International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I do like this rooster. The two points that I don't like is funny comb and he has one white feather in his one foot. I like his heft.

this boy is up there .he only need one good selected mate to be able to produce a show quality bird .
Elegance is a class by it self .has to kept in ours flock . the other faults we can breed them out with a time ,but we can t afford to loose Elegance . not all the show lines out there have it , it is a unique trait .need to be bred true .

Thank you, I should have listened to my first instinct. From the beginning my husband and I liked this rooster best. Then I second guessed with the funny comb and the one white toe feather popped up. I even thought about culling him but just couldn't. There was just something about him.

I will try and get a better picture tomorrow. Bad as in DQ?

if his comb lobe is split or has point than is a DQ. doesn t mean we can t breed from .
breeding is different story all together ,because he ll not be able to reproduce by him self .he need mate .and that changes all the equation . 2 chooks involved not just one . we need to find the balance between them . they have to be able correcting each other faults is they progeny .

there is many trait we breed for and select for too .

better photos of his comb will help ?

Is this considered too much color?

for the show .I ll say yes .

the show bird is better to have a solid black chest or just a few spots . not laced ( actually the lacing on the Black copper rooster is genetically impossible .on the Birchen marans is possible and desired . no body understand what causing it .the Silver or the Autossomal genes .

the show are looking for a chest like this one

gorgeous marking .just a little copper .

kfelton, I have one BC and three BLCM roosters to pick from. They are pure Bev. I know the three lighter hens not showing copper are pure Bev. I think that may be where I want to start. Not sure which roo to use with them. My BC is missing his tail feathers. Could you tell me what you think? Thank you!

I agree with Chooks man. What I plan on doing to keep from diluting the blue of my blue coppers out too much, I will always breed a black copper to blue copper so that the blue doesnt get washed out. I currently have one of my black copper males over my favorite blue copper pullet. I love the rich copper color of your black copper male also. And he has a small amount of color on his breast so he will probably produce pullets with nicely colored hackles. I would definitely use him if he has a nice tail once it comes back. Your blue copper male is lovely also and would pair very nicely with your black copper females.
