International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I knew you have the same warped sense of humor that I do and you wouldn't be offended by my Spartacus joke. I could see them saying...... No.... I am Spartacus. Remember there is always the mail. I do find that the flock of young ones have more savvy than one or two. Poor Tony2 by himself couldn't find his way out of a wet paper bag.

LOL! Yes my sense of humor is definitely warped. It's better to laugh than to cry. On a positive note, I have quite a few Marans chicks in the brooders with more soon to come hopefully. I finally am getting Marans eggs again! :D

you don t need to start all over again .we never restart again .we just continue fixing the fault one step at the time .
if they had a proper hatch down ,than the white feathers they are showing now is due to the environment and the health of the chooks .

that's a relief. they were little ravens at hatch. it is luna that has a trace of white on 1 new feather on her head and I got worried.

here is the photo of 1st batch:

marco is about 3,8-4 kg, the young cockerels might be around 3 kg (3+) and the hens usually are up to 3 kg (2,6+).

they are not small .38 to 4 Kg that what the SOP call for . and the hen as well around 2,7 to 3Kg .

by the way the parasitic white does not appear in the head . the white feathers usually appears on the wing .tail . rear plus the fluff ..
any other white feathers any where else in the body ,they are caused by some thing else . not a genetic parasitic white we talk about .
Luna is a hen now .

I can see a lot of white at the base of feathers. it can be due to health issues or stress (fighting). mario molted it out but he died. marco still hasn't molted. marco and luna are full sibling so I am afraid that all of their chicks might inherit parasitic white. cockerels are luna's chicks. I have 4 pullets from my friend's line. I am thinking to swap 1 of my cockerels with his that now weighs 3,2 kg. he is 8 months old now and will get bigger. especially when I feed him.

sound like a good plan to me .
better to have 2 or more different lines to work with .

3,8Kg at 8 months is normal . I ll not call him small .

All this talk about weight got me thinking. Pulled Chester in to weigh and he's 6.6 lbs so 3 kg. At 6 months will he add 3 more lb to fit the proper weight when grown? Or do I need to be focused on heavy hens to mix him with?

His comb healed from his battle with frostbite with no intervention from me. By healed I mean his gorgeous comb lost points and waddles are about 1/3 the size. Looks silly now. He had the genes just we had a horrible week of weather and I didn't think bringing him in was a good idea. Lesson learned.
