International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have at least 2 hens giving me speckled eggs. One hen is a pure Bev hen. She starts out laying pretty dark eggs but then fades to a 4. Not sure which hens are laying these eggs.
Are these the chics you got from "Brian"? Did you get chics in March last year? I was thinking you and I got chics same place, same time. TOM

Tom, I didn't get any chicks from Brian. I guess he was buisy. I messaged him and he messaged me back once. I told him I wanted chicks. Didn't hear back from him. Most of my birds are from Julie Akers she has pure Bev.

I am not sure which hen is laying these eggs but I think she is towards the end of her laying cycle. I have two other hens trying to set. If I could figure out who is laying them. I would relocate her to my friends house.

My pullet #8 as I call her is finally laying decent now. She sure took her sweet time. I do need a better name for her and Im thinking Dutchess is a good fit. I got this little beauty from her yesterday. Very proud of my babies! Dutchess is a line C pullet (line formerly referred to as FRF x LA) and is a mix of my two original lines I have.

Well done Kayla! I really like the shape, color and sheen of Dutchess’s egg. I would breed from her just for those eggs. The FRF x LA Crossing did you well.

Marchick,

I really like the color / sheen of the egg on the left and the spherical shape of the egg on the right. You have the ingredients now all you have to do is mix them together to produce some pullets that lay a dark spherical egg.

Thank you! :D I am very happy with the crossing! The two lines compliment each other beautifully. I am eager to see how this next generation of birds I am raising will look and if egg color is improved further.
