International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Took a few updated shots of Maximus as he is recovering from frost bite damage. I didn't end up dubbing him because I wanted to see how he would fair on his own. The necrotic tissue is falling off and does look a little awkward but he still has some healthy comb tissue left. He is still my best looking boy. I love him very much. :)

Poor Maximus! I would think frostbite would be painful! :(

@kfelton0002 Do you like your Instant Pot? I want to get rid of 2 crock pots, rice maker, yogurt maker, pressure cooker.... but concerned the Instant Pot will not live up to the hype. Sorry to the thread totally off topic.

I will let you know! I just ordered it last night and it's supposed to be here tomorrow. I got the Lux version of the IP, not the Duo that has the option for yogurt. I just want a pressure cooker to make soups and stuff quickly and tenderize meat without having to cook it all day. I felt the same way about all the cult-like following and hype about the IP. I was skeptical and reluctant, but I've had many MANY people recommend it to me and I researched it in great depth before making my decision. The reviews about the Crock Pot Express that does all the things the IP is supposed to do had mixed reviews and can be glitchy. There were others I compared also, like the Best Choice Products model and the Cosori. When it was all said and done, all the positive reviews and recommendations for the IP helped me make my decision. I can't wait to give it a whirl. :D

RIGHT?!? Ive never had any birds be so alike. trips me out lol

If they are nearly identical it will all boil down to small details and which you prefer personality wise. Some roosters are just more gentle on hens than others. Some are a little more social and friendly. When the time comes to make the decision tag each one with his own color leg band or zip tie so you can tell them apart, and take pics so we can help you look them over. :)

He has never appeared in pain and has never missed a beat. Chickens are tough and very resilient. If he had indicated he was in pain I would have dubbed him, but he never appeared to even notice it. He's a very macho and stoic rooster. :)

Yes I know.. you and him are always in my head when I look at my Marans. I will be keeping one or two of the cockerels just in case I need them. Luckily with a pressure cooker you can tenderize even the toughest of tough old birds for when I do decide to cull them. :D

I have to keep reminding myself that I will not correct everything in one generation. So I compare the cockerels to their sire and there is improvement. They are better than their sire for the most part so the fact that they aren't worse is a small victory. :)
Yay for small victories!

My eggs went into lockdown. I hope my temperature is better. I only had 4 hatch the first hatch. It is official my Lavender Ameraucanas rooster is infertile. Out of the two batches none of the lavender Ameraucana eggs showed any signs of being fertile. I am running 100% on my Marans eggs. I will be getting out of Ameraucanas completely. I can focus on my Marans. They are my first love! I am praying for a good hatch!
