International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I am going to swoon over this bird some more! He is absolutely devine!! I really like him a lot. His bottom line is excellent.. very hard thing to achieve. Very well balanced. His color is rich and beautiful. I would give my right pinky toe for this bird, true story! Lol. Aurora, he is looking superb. :)

Lol, swoon away! It looks like we've got 1 keeper chosen :) He'll need a name now. Hmm...

I love names of greek Gods and Godesses for naming my breeders. I probably would call him Zeus or Hercules if he were mine. Or you could stay true to his French ancestry and give him a french name like Beau (pronounced Bo) which is french for beautiful, which he is.

green boy would be my keeper too. pullets from your back up roo will be darker so you will have both dark and nice coloured hens to work with.

I like your red boy too. the roo you are going to give your friend can be your 2nd back up. I am sure your friend would agree if you ask to mate him to your hens.

I will try to get more pictures of purple today. He was another one of those uncooperative ones. Maybe he'll be more willing.

You're right, he would be willing. Especially for some chicks from the breeding lol.

So right now, as it stands,
Green boy has the #1 spot.
Purple is a possible #2, more pictures needed
Red maybe #3 to go to my friend.

I do have a couple group shots of a few of them together, I think mostly blue, red and yellow but I'll check later and see what I have. Thank you all! You're so helpful! I do wish @Chooks man were around to weigh in too. I know he's busy with life though right now.

if you can keep them for a while. they are still young and might change.

This is very true. If you could hang onto them until their tails come in fully we could see their full potential.

I agree that it wouldnt be ideal to keep a bird with a halo, but I would choose type over color everytime. If I had to choose between a halo and a high tail I would choose the halo because tails are a lot harder to correct from my experiece. I'm still working on that! Lol
