International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

A lot has happened while you were away. I lost a lot of birds this summer to varmints. I had Maximus (the sire) and several hens including all of my FRF hens, #8 (the cockerel's dam), and my pullet from Redbanks all in the same pen and a varmint got all of them in one night. My husband thinks it was coyotes because all of the birds were gone. All that was left was feathers. I lost my best blue copper hen to a varmint as well this past summer.

I have a few young cockerels left from Maximus and Queen but that cockerel you like was literally the only cockerel I had from Maximus and #8. So more birds like him are not possible. :(

sorry to hear about your lost .that terrible .
I have to catch up to do on this thread .

I have two girls that I like. I tried to get pictures. What do you guys think? Pearl Orange leg band and poppy lavender band. Third picture both of them together and last picture lavender band.

This guy is my favorite. Pretty much our only option. Opinions on this guy? He needs a name too...

He’s out best shot in the roo department.

This is Rudy, our only other rooster. Never been a fan of him. He’s currently molting so pardon the raggedness.

We will start with the “old ladies”.

These girls are 5 years now. Not sure if they are going to keep laying next year. Love them. They’ve lost their copper but still are MONSTER sized! Love their weight. Great temperament too!

A few of these little girls flocked together, so I snapped some pics. How do they look? Mind you they are quite young.

those are high quality Black copper rooster
I prefer the oldest roo or maybe just butter photos of him standing .showing all his great body traits .
I do not see any fault on the older rooster except I think his hackle has a shade of gold at the bottom of it .
the youngest has a correct copper .rich red without any other shade of color .great asset . need better photos of him ,standing up right ,like the old roo.
the older roo has a better feet color ,grey/pink.mean he does not carry any extra Melanin .great stuff

wow .the mass and the body type of those hens and the pullets .
the pullets look exactly like the old rooster .I think he is they Sir .
great body type and hackle marking on the pullets 10/10 .

m really impressed . you have the best flock .body type ,tail shape and angle ,hackle marking all the package .

this year breed the pullets to the old roo and the hens to the youngest roo.
if you don t have a space than work with pullets and the old rooster .

if I have your old rooster ,I ll breed him tell the day he dies

if the pullets are his than he is very rare .he is him self a show bird and a breeder of a 1st class { if the pullets are his daughters. I m just making sure. }

I ll come back to those chooks and comment on them separately . they deserve it .

you should be very proud of your work. BRAVO

Oh my gosh thank you so much! We’ve been really lucky with good starting stock. If you’d like, I can get individual pics of everyone tomorrow. Again, thank you so much!
