Did any of the shipped eggs hatch? I think I missed it.

No, but they had chicks in (three did), so I’m at a loss. All my own eggs hatched, but the hen didn’t put much effort into incubating the rest after the first four chicks hatched, so they died before hatching. I don’t understand why they weren’t hatching at the same time though.

I would go with rooster damage, and since it's warming up and the uv index is getting up there I'd say they are getting sunburned. A few hen saddles should fix you right up.

Yes sir, rooster. You can tell by the wing feathers being rubbed raw by her back also.

Thanks for the response I did order some aprons but they seem to have been lost in transit. The company did refund my money the other day but they don’t have any more available. I guess I’ll try ordering new ones from another source.

She is so very gentle with them and for the first two days she stayed inside the building where she hatched them due to some hawk activity. She was hatched and raised by a different breed, raised free range and was taught what the dangers of hawk predation are, hence why she knows to stay inside while her chicks are highly vulnerable.

Some more chick photos. I don’t know if you can see, but the BlCM has a yellowish patch on its head. Does anyone know if this is similar to the red spot on a BCM chick you guys were talking about before?

My pullets have been laying since mid March and the eggs have faded some and the speckles have increased. This one is from my lighter of the 2 marans.
