International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Not sure... since 2 girls eggs have lightened up I can’t tell who’s is who’s anymore. I’ve been to busy to stalk them. I ate some last weekend that I couldn’t see a fertile spot in the skillet. And 1 of the girls doesnt look like he’s been on her like the other 2. We will see..

Some females resist the males' pursuits more than others. Likely they are still being bred just not as often. Its usually pretty easy to spot out the male's "favorites" as their feathers get tattered and sparse on their backs and saddle areas. If there is a rooster with them they are probably fertilized.

Here are my latest chicks. Two more blue coppers hatched so hopefully I raise enough to keep that line going. That makes me 4 blue coppers total.

I hatched 5 black coppers and 2 blue coppers. I have had zero of Dutchess and Princess's eggs to hatch. They develop but never pip or hatch. I will clean them out and put them with Queen's son in a few weeks.

wow stunning true marans eggs 110% every thing about them is correct .colour ,shape and form .love the glossy sheen on them .

I DO NOT THING THERE IS ANY OTHER BREED OF CHOOKS WHO CAN MATCH THE MARANS WHEN COME TO EGG BEAUTY < NUMBER 1 IN THE WORLD >

hatch some chicks out of those gorgeous eggs please .love to see them as chicks .
who is responsible for those eggs?

I can't remember if I named Queen's cockerel or not, but I think I recall naming him Prince. I am a bit absent minded. He is still dark shouldered but looking good.

Prince is solid as a tree . well build .
love his tail perfect shape and form not the angle .but it is gorgeous any way in my book .
he is loaded with a Melanin .his feet should not be that black if he had a right amount of Melanin .
I think if you are having enough of the broody hen ,than do not pen Prince with him Dam Queen s because they progeny will be broody queeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenssssss.watch that .

I think the best way to work with Prince to mate him to his sibling and the other pullet .Keep Queen with Duke s as out cross tell you see the next year if they progeny pullets goes broody or not .
you do not want to reinforce the broody trait will drive you out of your house .

just a personal opinion my friend

And here is Queen in broody jail. While I am breaking her from being broody, I am also cleaning her out to go with Prince in a few weeks. She is not amused.

she is stunning like always .love this hen .true Queen .
she is more compatible to Duke s than her son Prince .
I see her and Duke s throw some awesome progeny .
Duke s has all the point she is missing .body pattern ,amount of copper ,Right amount of Autossome Red . Right tail . right every thing .
try to get a cockerel from them and keep Queen healthy and live to mate back to him next year .

Okay I can start cleaning Queen's daughter (Prince's full sister) out tomorrow. Or I may run down and grab her off the roost later. I had to dig through my records but I found where I wrote her name. You named her Malika. I'll take pics when I get her in the stall.

The eggs in the turner and the 3 eggs in the one picture came from Malika, Queen, the remaining blue copper hen, and the Xena. The single darkest egg by itself in the picture that is around a 6-7 came from one of the pullets free ranging.

The eggs in the turner are from the same hens that produced the chicks I posted earlier.

Great news .Let Work with Malika { Queen in Arabic } .
full sibling mating great way to see how your chooks are made .what hidden genes are there . what really they genome . it is very important before we start any line ,other wise we spend ours time hatching and culling .no good .

will be very good for you to pair them .no need to hatch many of them a DZ will enough to see what going on .
if a correct cockerel show up and Queen still healthy ,than mate her to her Grand Son .

test mating is a great asset to practice when breeding chooks

good news So Malika lay dark eggs .
pairing her to her brother will reinforce the dark egg gene .and will throw some progeny with a darker eggs than they mama .

you hens and pullets are all true breeding stock for the dark egg genes .
