currently just layer flock. We had males (previously posted pics), but sold them as they were too aggressive to the rest of the flock and I didn’t have room to separate them into another area for them to mature.

than you don t have to worry about SOP .you have a healthy gorgeous hens .lay dark eggs .

Chooksman, Both yellow tag and pink tag layed dark eggs today. In this picture rounder egg on left is yellow tag. Egg on right is pink tag. Not as dark as first egg. So either her egg lightened some or the splash layed the first darker egg.

you have to wait and collet 20 eggs from each pullet to see what exact genes combination they have .the first 20/30 eggs will tell you about them .

you don t realy have to keep them all 20 eggs of each pullets .
me I weight the egg and take photo of it .I do that with each egg they lay .by the end of the first month I end up with all the data I need .the weight and photos of all the 20/30 eggs of the life .

Not sure but possibe. Nimbus and Blaze are for sure 1/2 brothers to these two pullets.

Yes, There were 5 or 6 hens in that pen at the time. They all came from Harvey. Harvey had several pens though. They could have came from different pens.

Yes and No .
Yes = if you do pen breeding .without knowing who is a mother .all the chicks are from a same sire and any hen?
No = if you single breed .mean knowing each hen chicks ,if you do that ,you will know chicks are related through they sire but not they mothers .you ll breed half sibling give you better option and result .
same like line breeding .
you need to know wich chick come from wich hen other wise you are going to run into some problem in the future .

If I had to guess I would say this is mom to the two pullets and probably Nimbus but probably not Blaze. Blaze is a little smaller. She is the biggest hen.

very good to know .
she look like is a mothers of the 2 pullwts .

so pen the 2 Blue pullets with Blaze .they share a same sire .so we are breeding to the sire .
pen Nimbus to his mother to breed a Dam line separatly .

you don t need many pen to do that just one pen for breeding and one to hold a rooster separately .
pen a Blue hen and her 2 daughter Blue pullets with Blaze first .hatch few Dz than remove the Blaze and the 2 pullets from breeding pen and replace them him Nimbun ,hatch few Dz and you done . 20 to 25 from each pairing and you will see how balanced they look . you end up with 2 lines .

PS do not need to breed from 6 hens .make you confuse .keep it simple .
