good news .wait tell you get those eggs in the spring . we know those chooks ,they qualities and fault . they have a lot great qualities .
they are compatable to your choks ,they will help you to fix the body pattern and combs without massing the body type .
plus Marchicks chooks have a tail to die for . true marans tail

Would two pens be enough to work with? For my Coppers? I am thinking maybe getting rid of my whites. Just not sure yet.

2 pens for all your breeding ? or just a copper variety ?

Chooksman, The plus and minus. Whites may all carry yellow. High tail a problem most but not all lay dark eggs. Birchen some lay dark and some not.

I like your Birchen better .
one pen for a copper and 1 pen for Birchen , need 1 pen small one for the the no working roosters .

Two pens just Coppers. I raise the chicks in the pheasant house then move them into the grow out area. At about 12 weeks they get mixed into the large pen. With my whites and turkeys.

if I was in your place I ll keep just a BLC and BC . 2 breeding pen .one super line .bred well for years to come .

pen BC rooster over BLC hens
pen2 BLC rooster over BC hens .
BL from one pen will be matted to BC from other pen .

you don t 3 breeding pen .too confusing .2 pens is better for you .
progeny from one pen { cockerel } matted to pullets from the other pen . you ll make better progress ,and keep the genetic diversity .
