they were shipped, and to exacerbate matters i live at 5300 ft. they were in an auto turner also. But the biggest thing was they were turned the wrong way and tried to pip at the wrong end

some thing wrong with they sences . so they turn downward rather than upward where is the air sack .
nothing wrong with living high . chicks where formed but didn t know wich way to position them selves .that is they geentic make up .

so I will order eggs from another breeder and make sure to band these chicks with a color differing form the other to warn me not to breed them to each other. Thanks for the info

great idea .if you do that ,you ll no need to buy any more marans fertile eggs ,you can breed from the 2 different line and start your own line by selecting only the best .

the eggs start to hatch .Golden Boy chicks come out first ,they are pumping out like pop corn .

let you know in a couple of days what the final result .

I m interested in this cockerel .more photos please.
I know he has Black eyes. one genetration and is removed ,but the quality of th hackle copper is the best .plus the comb .the tail all .
only what he is missing is .Black eyes and More shoulder colouring .I don t see where is a problem .
now Prince has showed some white .than need to find another cockerel with a same copper quality .I think this guy make a cut .
Cockerels #1 ,#3 and #4 need more photos of them from all angles .
from this phots I ll say those 3 cockerel are the best you have now , compatable ,minimum fault. nothing so bad and hidden ,all all have a perfect body type and tail #3 I m not sure yet but the other 2 are good .
I rate them better than SW

the rest cockerels #2 .5. 6 ,7 are a cull .nothing to offer .

These are the parents of the Blue Copper Marans I posted yesterday. Plus some eggs from the various bird lines in them (the Blue Copper Marans). The lighter eggs are the Blue and Splash hens. Dark eggs are from the BCMs that got attacked. Can't wait to see how dark their eggs will be. Enjoy!

a lot chicken hatched last 2 days ,they still hatching .it is a biggest hatch I managed to pull this season .I almost run out of zip tie .a lot double tagging .good sign { double tag is for the chicks hatched from dark eggs #6 min or #5 if has a perfect ovall shape or a lot of dots.

here the tagging system I used this last hatch ,because too many different blood lines and different combinations .all from Liza s . so I ll be tagging not only by variety but olso by true sibling . easier to owrk with in the future .
BBS chicks from dark tubular type eggs - double Black right leg .8 chicks from 1 hen
BBS chicks Dark eggs Dotted and Ovall { true marans egg } Double black left leg. 7 chicks same hen.
BBS chicks Dark shiny Oval egg . one Black each leg
BBS chicks from #4 /#5 egg .taged one Black Right leg.
Birchen chicks from Dark tubular dotted eggs .double yellow Right leg.6 chicks same hen

How do you keep track of the chicks in the Incubator? I put in separators to keep them apart. They tend to hop over just as soon as I remove the lid to take them out. Hard to keep track of everyone. I will only have 6 or 7 to keep track of though. I need to learn the eggs but if they look alike that will be a problem. I will probably do two hatches. I am looking at about 25 chicks from each pen. I am hoping to start hatching in march.
