International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I m going to try to breed a colour blind rooster .all the hens will look same to him .

DW did very good with Unicorn , only got 2 chicks from her with 2 rooster BM and BB now with DW hatched all her eggs 12 or some thing like that .
he Liked Shiva too .I was happy about that .my biggest and heaviest hen . most DW chicks are from her .

infusing a line is always good .it is a best way to save them .

At least you got quite a few chicks from DW and other good hens. If you single mate or trio mate him in close quarters with the two hens you want him to breed he would have a higher likelihood of breeding them. It would be worth a shot. Don't give them a lot of room. A 4x4 feet pen for a pair or 4x6 or 4x8 for a trio would be good. He wouldn't have the opportunity to pick favorites that way.

I just put 2 heat lamps in my houses. One in the big house and it helps out actually 3 houses. They are in one building but separate pens. The big house is where the heat lamp is and where blaze is kept. Nimbus and his girls have a heat lamp. I closed up the small trapdoors last night. It got down to 19 degrees last night. They are calling for 12 degrees in about a week. We almost always get colder than what they say. So 12 degrees Fahrenheit will most likely be single digit. Too cold this early. Not good! We had frost end of September this year. It was earlier than I ever remember.

Bless your heart! I hate the cold. I agree it has been too cold too early. We got down to 12 degrees one night a couple weeks ago but its been in the 20s and 30s at night for the most part. I worry the winter will be a long and rough one. I will wrap my brood pens in plastic to knock off the wind chill. That is sufficent for my neck of the woods. I already long for spring. It is mild right now here, just rainy and muddy. Kentucky is southern enough that very cold spells are usually punctuated by tolerable cold and not constant. We usually dont get much snow either, maybe 2-3 decent snows a year.

Here are some rear and front views of Dark Angel. I couldnt get close enough to him to get a top view of his back. He is on the skittish side.

I think we selected well .both with stunning copper quality .and nice chest rust .just enough . they will produce a colourfull cockerels 100%

2 faults to watch for and breed out .
High tail set
Dark eyes

working with those 2 faults is a price to pay for a proper copper quality and quantity .worth it .

I like them both .great addition to your roosters stud .Duke and Prince ,
