right there with you, I would feed all those birds for way too long trying to make a decision.
Right! I was the whole time thinking I need a BC cockerel over my BLC hens. The one BLC cockerel from the beginning I really liked him. There was just something about him and I liked him better than all the rest even the BC. I liked the BC everything but his size and I was doubting he would catch up. Boy am I glad I kept both of them. Culling is the hardest part for me because I don't want to cull too early and regret it.

if the white feathers appear in the first 18 month .than it is genetic .
if the white appear after the big molt 18 months then could be related to other thing .like stress ,sickness etc,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

white any where is bad news .

Good to know! I'm glad you cleared up that misconception then. So far I've not found any white in my females. Just a few males, mostly white underfluff under the hackle. I will hopefully get a handle on it one of these days.

my friend I told you ,you have a good marans .

Thank you! I appreciate that. Her eyes are dark/marbled. I like her type and mass very well. She may make it to a brood pen. :)

@marchick and @kfelton0002 .you both worry too much I think .let chooks express them selves .you have to look @ what they have now as good traits .not to worry what they will have in the future .nature know that ,we don t .so we don t have to worry all the time about every trait .
enjoy the beauty they are showing now .in this moment . not what you think may happen .

I am learning to do just that. Last year I probably would have freaked out to find a split/slipped wing bird produced from my line. But this year I am a lot more laid back with it. No line is going to be free from DQ, defects, recessive genes, etc. I am learning to appreciate my birds for what they are now and am seeing potential where I wouldnt have seen it before and what can be done to improve upon them. I will breed my best to my best and take them as they come.

white underfluff under the hackle is a big problem . but you only need one rooster without it to breed it out .
does Duke s have the white underfluff ?
does Prince have it ?he is from different sire line .
any cockerel we selected has it ? hope not .

for me I will take any fault in a working cockerel as long as he has a correct body pattern , correct copper ,and free from any parasitic white . those are the thing I can not stand .

the rest bad comb .dark eyes .high tail ,short back ,bring it on . those fault I will fix them on the hens lines .
cockerels lines I will focus on body colour with a complete body pattern . plumage type and qualities , quality of the copper , free from any white .. those are a cockerels traits .
rest from mama hen .
