International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have 6 total, 4 cockerels and 2 pullets. They came from someone in Partridge Ky. Little Diddle Farms. Besides going to either Rural King or Tractor Supply this was the best option at the time to get marans from.
Not the greatest pictures but this is Daisy. She is the biggest of the 2 pullets but is clean legged.

she good one . her tail is too long { should be small and full .good angle . love the purity of her black plumage ,well tight to the body .
like her hatch mate .the breeder is working with a long and high tail strain .

As far as tails go, would this one have the more correct tail?

I love their coloring especially on the girls. In the sunlight they just sparkle with green iridescence. Their breeder mainly has black coppers but he also had some blue copper hens in his breeding pens. Is it safe to assume due to their coloring that they are pure blacks? These are my first Marans and I actually won them in a drawing back in march. I got them just shy of 3 weeks old and was hoping for mostly pullets but oh well. I love their personalities and if it would not upset my daughter i'd switch over to only having Marans.

Blue color if is no showing than is not there . black copper come from one Blue parent X Black copper is actually pure BC .
for the Black to be Black need absence of both Blue genes BI.your pullets are bl/bl .
regarding the sheen ,in the marans we are looking for minimum sheen . we don t want too mush of that green sheen .

you said you don t really know if she birchen or BC .best way to find out is to mate her to a BC or BLC to see .
if she is BC than the is no problems .but is she is birchen you will know .plus all her pullets progeny will be BC .those pullets if bred back to BC rooster they will throw all BC .will be some Yellow leakage on some of the cockerels . pullets from this line are all good to work with .not the cockerels .

I think if you catch the 2 BLC hens responsible for the dark eggs you are finding in they pen and move them with Blaze . than your problem will go away .
your BLC hens have excellent body type ,mated to Blaze will give you a lot BC you are looking for .

Only one of the two BLCM hens in with Jasper (original rooster) is laying a rounder egg. Color is fairly good on both. It is more finding out who is laying the dark round egg.
