@Punkybrewster
this guy has a bad comb ,double points in the form of M ,middle part of his comb .
I don t see his shoulder coloration ?
donsn t seem to have any white any where , can you check his under fluff is is pure black or greyish black . we are looking for a pure dark black under fluff whithout any white ,.
for the parasitic white we can not tell ,till after the big molt at 2 years of age , OLd man tom has mentioned it in one of his post ,
to breed out the parasitic white we have to breed from old stock more mature with out any white .

What’s the name of this color variety?
I’ve never seen it
They are indeed black silver, or birchen, Marans. They are very close to the Black Copper variety, only the copper color is replaced with silver. There are not huge numbers of breeders for this variety out there, so I have mostly posted with this group just so I am not in a dead thread! Since they are only different by one color gene anyways, it isn't much difference.

@Bantambird
this pullet is absolutely stunning .10 /10 in my book . some people will say she need more leg feathering ,but the standard accept the minimum possible . I like the minimum to prevent from vulture hock .
so if the judge in the fair is saying this type of pullet is not good marans . than some thing is wrong with him 100% shouldn t be allowed to judge marans .
this pullet will be champion in any international show ,I guaranty that and I know what I m talking about .
Bravo

Thanks! good to hear again from you!
My daughter took some splash Marans in a young trio and a white Marans pullet and a blue silver cockerel to the fair. Judge didn't like them because my Marans are slow maturing and slow feathering, he was pointing out that they were small yet and the tails aren't finished growing out on the cockerels. Mine don't finish until 12 to 18 months before I see final results. I told her next year she must take adult birds or she just won't be able to compete with the fast maturing modern breeds.

don't pay too much attention to the judge. what does he know about marans?
