you have done what I will do my self .never cross back to bird showing very bd fault or desqulifiction traits .He developed a large growth on his neck so I eventually culled him.
I started with 3 lines.
I still have hens from lines #2 and #3.
No Marans from line #1 but I have their progeny.
All were bred to a line #3 rooster.
Seamus.
He had a lot of parasitic white but a low, short tail, beautiful copper, light colored legs, light leg feathering, and he was big and chunky.
I did what I thought you would advise me.
Breed from him then get rid of him because I was breeding in parasitic white but I needed the other qualities he had.
I did not want to breed his progeny back to him because the white would be reinforced and even harder to breed out..
This has produced much nicer marans.
Did I do the right thing?
so you still have progeny from line #1 mix in to your existing line ,that very smart move .
I never keep other peoples lines pure in my farm ,I blend them to other lines and I work with the blend so I can breed in or beed out any trait I need
when we have with prsitic white bck excel in other desirble trit ,we shold beed from him and remove only when we hve some good qulity progeny from him like you hve done with Seamus. now you have mny cockerels and pullets to work with to breed the parsitic white out and keep the good traits in
my self now I ended up with super nice ( the best in the farm ) BC cockerels from Gaelle line 5 of them but they ll hve parsitic white I can not cll them all wrong practice , but I have to keep the 2 best one and work with them I need to find the mgic pairing to over come that
I know Love song and here progeny 2 cockerels and 1pullet do no carry the parsitic white so I ll mix the lines together I pair love song with CTB again to produce more progeny , I ll mate her dughter to the Gazelle best son Spring Buck and I ll mte Gazelle dughter to LoveSong son OperaHouse , by doing this pairing I ll produce 2 different type of progeny one the will be the parasitic white carrier ,the other will be free from it lot work .,we have to work with what we have ,we cn not cull all our birds ,
