International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

This is the older group of the 2 hatches I kept this year. They are 6.5 months old and have slowly begun to lay.

I notice these pullets egg color is just a bit lighter than what they hatched from. I am assuming it is because I crossed lines? Their eggs are mostly dark but not quite as stunning as what they hatched from.

Seamus over lines #1,2,3 hens
Most have good copper. The lighting is bad in this coop. I just moved them in so I cant let them out for a few days to get better photos.

There are 8 total pullets from this hatch.
The 4 keeper cockerels I have posted are from this hatch as well.

I wanna do multiple likes, unfortunately I only get one.

this is a pen with 20 cockerels ,troubles maker .
this cuckoo cockerel has a very bad comb all damaged from fighting .love his body type and low tail angle .he is super long and wide .short on his feet compare to his brothers . he has a parasitic white on his tail . love his deep chest .
I ll breed him to my big splash and Blue hens with high tail to test the balancing theory ,see if does work or it is just a theory .
if the theory is correct I should get 50% of the progeny with a big long body type and correct tail angle ,other 50% the should be big with high tail angle .
I m trying to understand if tail trails are sex linked or not .theory say they are not linked , I need to test it for my book .I can not repeat what other peoples said .

theory did not work for me in breeding naked necks. I had a pair of N/na, hatched 10 eggs laid in a row. all hatched and got 6 feathered necks and 4 N/na.

I have 2 hatches that I am keeping this year. With both hatches, i used Seamus
Over all hens from lines #1,2,3.

These are the youngest group. There are 7 pullets. I had planned to grow them to point of lay and sell them so I culled the cockerels early. But now I have decided to keep them. I love how they are looking. Most have very nice copper and tails. A couple of them have nice mass already.

This group are about 4.5 months old.

10 eggs is not enough to tell plus you got closer 6 to 4 is 60% around a 50% any way
when talking genetic 50% does not mean half /halflaxactly ,what does mean is around equal amount .

they are stunning big and chunky .love they full hackle marking and the quality of they copper .
yellow tag is different style .if i remenber she is a sister to a yellow tag cockerel? her tail is little high ,
the comb is your next move , very hard because you don t have another line with a small comb . you need to wait for a mutation . true siblime mating will bring the mutation fast in both direction a good and the bad .
the eggs colour will always come back in the F2 generation, if we working with a same line .
all the best.

Yellow leg band is line #1 Judith(culled) daughter.
I was able to hatch 2 of her eggs that she did not eat.
1 cockerel, 1 pullet. Both look alike and both have line #1 traits.

Yes, combs are my next to work on. They are awful. I will do my best. I do not want to bring any more lines in unless you think I should.

Im glad to hear that egg color will improve in F2. This was my thinking.
It was still worrysome to see lighter eggs when I know the dark egg gene is here.

Thank you @Chooks man
