International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Finally got picture of the first 21 eggs from The BlCM pullet. (Not actually all the first because my dad was looking after them when I went on holiday and forgot to take photos until the last day.) I’ve named her Chanel because she’s fancy and French. I’ll attach the pictures instead of putting them in the message and taking up a whole page. Lovey and dark, shiny and quite round. Not huge but she’s only seven and a bit months old.
Beautiful!
Love the shape too.

My darkest egg layers lay a torpedo shape.

These are from Mr. Good Comb pen. Pullet line.

I am waiting for 2 to lay so I can see their egg. But so far, only 1 is a cull. The others are laying a dark egg consistently.

@Punkybrewster
this is the best hen and the best photo. true rectangular body shape with a super deep chest and well developed rear ,short to the ground type .
she is good in all the area except her comb is a little biger , easy fix .we should bred cockerels from her ( we will for sure in the future )
what her name?

She is now named Moonshine

Really like the depth of her chest and rear . She look deep and chunky to me from this 2 photos . Need more photos of her.
I like her style low to the ground type.

#117,
I have her penned for 3 days and no egg.
I have a feeling that her big swollen rear end is not normal. Filled with fluid it feels like. Almost touching the ground.

I will give her another couple of days to see if she lays but I think she is not healthy even if she acts like she is. She may have to be culled.

@Punkybrewster
this hen look good in this photo .still has a short back ,but the depth of chest and the chunkiness of her body are 2 great traits she has plus good comb too .

if you have a small pen and if you want to do a small hatch I think you should pen this hen and the Green left leg hen with one of your rooster just for a small hatch a Dz chicks . we need they marked progeny we are looking for cockerels from them .if possible .

#117 is not laying and may be a cull. Fluid in her bottom.

But I can pen Moonshine (green left leg) with JR and hatch some eggs.

Those are high quality eggs . Your pullet has all the good genes to produce dark eggs for a long time . Top class well happy for you.

View attachment 3469419The BCM pullet (Natasha) is the one with yellow legs. Since she started laying, they are turning paler. Above is now and bellow is an old picture from when she was younger. If her legs turn white, is it still an issue? My silkies are currently sitting on Brahma eggs because I need a new roo, and I put two of her eggs in too to make up a nest. I’m marking her offspring with red bands and Chanel’s with purple. Gonna wait for consistently bigger eggs from the BlCM to hatch more out.View attachment 3469423
Yellow leg is a recessive gene. If she is bred to a rooster with a pink leg half of her progeny will have a pink legs the other half will be split .
