International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

#117,
I have her penned for 3 days and no egg.
I have a feeling that her big swollen rear end is not normal. Filled with fluid it feels like. Almost touching the ground.

I will give her another couple of days to see if she lays but I think she is not healthy even if she acts like she is. She may have to be culled.
Does happen some times . Shame

#117 is not laying and may be a cull. Fluid in her bottom.

But I can pen Moonshine (green left leg) with JR and hatch some eggs.
Yes if you can pen Moonshine and LoveSong with JR that will be great . Just a small hatch to be sure the cockerels we will get are from those 2 best hens .
Love to see they true babies. They will be very special for sure .
Pedigree breeding is very important to establish the line very quickly and maintain it healthy for a long time .

2 BLCM sisters they are identical except Brahma standing tall second photo is a little darker and lay darker eggs than her sister lighter coloured one Her name is Sistertobrahma she lay #5 coloured eggs not as dark as her sister . Both are big chunky hens. They are a little taller on they legs . I prefer the one with short legs or medium .
When I breed this 2 sisters I will keep only they daughters not they son s .

Are we talking about Moonshine?
Yes JR will add dark egg genes to his progeny .

Yes. Moonshine.

So I will pen Moonshine and Love Song with JR. Moonshine will need to be cleaned out before I can put him in the pen with her. I will wait 10-14 days.

Now to make the decision on the pullet pen.
The 4 chosen,
then No Tags, #115 white, #114 green lay very dark. That would make 7 total.

you seem t5o have lot hens laying dark eggs lot keeper for now ,
lok to me like we don t need any pullets except if they are absolutly stunning to replace the older hens ,
what we need is a few great looking and correct cockerels to mate them to the hens next breeding season ,
if I understand ; from the pullets pen we selected 4 hens as a keeper plus 3 dark eggs layers .( no tag ,#115 and #114 )
from the cockerels pens we selected 4 hens plus one dark eggs layer ?
is that correct ?
if it is correct that will give us 12 hens in total as keepers .
