International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

What do you mean? Here's the kind of bucket I use. The insert is kind of hard ro remove. It took me a while to realize that by leaving it out the cup would fill with more water. Easier for the chickens to get a drink, I think.View attachment 3571745
I mean which heated water buckets are you going to use? Are you going to make your own? I would like to rig up something so winter care is easier.

I have no idea. I'll rig something up myself, I suppose. Maybe use an aquarium heater in the bucket and insulate around the outside of the bucket with something.

I was watching a video on YouTube. The perfect bucket heater. The guy was using plastic bucket and nipples. That video didn't show how it worked out. I need to see if he made another video updating it.

I made a heated cookie tin last year and used it this past winter.

It's just a Christmas cookie tin with a lamp cord with double candlebra bulbs? …Maybe they are appliance bulbs inside. (Total hillbilly but it works) I need to make more.
Disclaimer..... I do cover it with a thin rubber mat similar to a drawer liner and secure water to prevent spilling and it's tied in to a GFCI outlet and I don't use it in the coop.

Hard part is getting the cookie tins out of the house before wife notices. She's found me a few at garage sales and thrift stores or will occasionally throw me one of her many she retires from use.

Interesting. So you set the water bucket on top of the heated cookie tin? That sounds like my kind of project.

I put 26 eggs into the hatcher most are from BC over Blcm. There are a few BC x BC but not as many. I am hoping for BC pullet chicks.
Would you explain the abbreviations? BC, Blcm?

Black Copper? Black copper Marans? Thanks

I slept like a baby last night, and my BCM cockerel woke me up with his crowing around 5 or 6. It was great! Then I went back to sleep. LOL

Black Copper is BC and Blcm is Blue Copper Marans. Glad you slept well before the alarm system went off!
