International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have a routine of worming/mite prevention, dosing every spring and every fall.

You will always find folks who agree or strongly disagree with preventive measures.

I have waited for symptoms as some would suggest and when I had an infestation of mites in a pen and the work it took to get rid of them,
Never again.
I will dose 2x a year to prevent that cluster....

Ivermectin and Safeguard, not at the same time.
The vet I used to get advice from told me you could never go wrong worming your animals. Parasites can zap their health.

Short video from today. First minute is just giving him some peas. And he still nips me...😂

I still think this could be neurological, could be caused by a vitamin deficiency or other reason, or could be an inner ear infection. Inflammation or fluid in the ear could be a cause. I'm not a vet so it's really just a guess.

My hen was affected even worse. She was doing a lot of sitting. She had a hard time walking around. She would side step quite a bit like she was dizzy. She did not lay during this time.

My chickens love peas. I saw that little nip!

I agree. Especially presenting these symptoms before and seemingly improving.

There is so many things it could be and you may never know exactly.

I would keep on with the vitamins and maybe even a round of antibiotics would not hurt.

The wife has Amoxicillin 400/5ml that I can give him but unsure of the dosage if anyone knows... @NanaK by chance?
I didn't get a chance to snatch him up and check his ears or check for lice/mites but will tomorrow for sure. I'll get a good pic of his legs also.
Pretty sure its 250 mg/dayx10days

Just checked my notebook and the dose is correct.
This is what I have used

When I mentioned it to the warden she says that makes a lot of sense. I apologize if I ask things over and again. My brain has been on overload these last few days and if I don't force myself to stop thinking I get massive migraines. (Childhood head injury) So things will tend to go in one ear and out the other and I tend to miss things until I re-read and concentrate.

Anyhoo, not sure if the head shaking is a sign but I noticed after watching the video he was doing it a lot.
Yes, the nip... 🤣 He gets a pass.

I'm glad your hen healed up well. Keeps me hoping for the best with him. Really appreciate your insight,... much love your way ♥️

So with 400/5ml if I cut it in half 200/2.5ml should be good?
Could I split that again and give him 1.25 twice a day? Am and pm dosage? Or should I just give him the once per day?
