Hi folks,
Appenzeller here I have just joint your group and would like to introduce myself.
I life in Ireland but come original from Germany.
I do chicken for about 12 years. It's like an addiction, once you started you can't stop!
Over the years, I had so many breeds; Bielefelder, Vorwerk, Brahma various colors, White Leghorn Bantam, Wyandottes various colors, Black Cooper and Cuckoo Marans, Dutch Bantam, Orpington various colors just to name a few. I could easily add about another 6 to 8 breeds .
Also had Ducks in various breeds, Geese, Crollwitzer Turkey (I miss them incredible animals)
One breed always stuck with me my favored Silver Spangled Appenzeller.
At the moment I have of course Silver Spangled Appenzeller (1 rooster 1 hen, I had 5 hens and 23 baby chicks all sold last year ), Bantam Faverolle (1 rooster 2 hens one sitting on 6 Appenzeller and 5 Faverolle eggs at the moment), 1 Cochin Bantam great mother hen, (1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Light Sussex. 1 White Sussex, 1 Brown Leghorn, 2 Swedish Flowers only for eggs).
By end of the week I hope to get a delivery of eggs for Gold Spangled Appenzeller to cross them with my Silver. I want have another broody hen, so I started my Incubator just in case.
So I hope within the next few weeks to have my stock back and ready for sale (when all the travel restriction due to Covid 19 are eased off)
I generally keep some hens just for eggs for the family, we don't cull our hens. I would keep some breeds for a couple of years as my personal hobby and the offspring is for sale.
My oldest hen was a 8 year old Partridge Cochin, she was only 9 month when I got her a real pet and good mother hen.
Other interest of mine are, playing music and singing (at least I try).
I have also a female Labrador, a male Llewellin Setter and a little mixed lad he is our house pet, couple of cats and that's on the animal side.
I found BYC a few years ago and was always curious what difficulties people maybe have with their set up and other chicken issues, finally I said why not join them.
So that's me!
Looking forward to get more info on breeding, housing and more chicken stuff.
