Hello! I have four cochin bantam chickens. 3 hens and 1 roo. My hens are named Truly, Firework, and rebel hen. Truly and firework are typical - sweet, love attention, and beautiful. Rebel hen is something else. She is head hen, not afraid of anything, and, honestly, everyone (humans and chickens alike) are scared of her. Little Big Shot is my rooster. He is my absolute favorite. I started with two silkies but they didn't work out. I think I have a broody hen 🤞. I want to hatch six eggs under her. I joined BYC because I always have sooooo many questions on my chicks. Thank you!
Welcome to BYC you picked a great community to learn from so ask away

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Get your broody girl into a ground nest on fake eggs and try to graft her to the new site. She may fight it at first. It may take her a while to settle in. Manage her broody breaks for her for the first 3 or 4 days. Correct her if she heads back to the nest she started to go broody in. Once she routinely goes back to the ground nest and sets all day and all night, you can give her marked eggs to hatch.
I like to manage my broody's morning breaks so I can be sure she is getting off the nest to stretch, poop, eat and maybe dust bathe and so I can inspect her nest to make sure there are no extra eggs someone deposited that need to be removed. I hang a baby bottle with a vertical nipple on it near the nest for her to drink from. I just make sure it cannot drip into the nest when she drinks.
Have fun with your first broody hatch! There is nothing quite like it.
Can you look at my other post 'broody hen' and try to answer some questions on there? Thank You!
