Introducing chicks?

How does a hen know which chicks are hers? Novice question! Is it their sound, the way they look...or does a mama just know? Are there any chicken "mom" breeds that are good for raising chicks, or adopting them like in this situation?

I'd be concerned about integrating the 1 week olds to the existing flock for bio-security reasons; I'm a believer in a one month quarantine.

They learn by their peeps I believe. The setting hen will talk to the eggs, and the chicks peep back during the last day or two of incubation.

...or as chicks are grafted under broody at a day old,
but older chicks introduced may not be accepted.
