Hi everyone, this is my very first time posting in this category. Yesterday i rescued a rooster that couldn't be kept anymore by her old owner due to her getting evicted. It's a beautiful polish rooster, i will attach a pic at the end of the post :), anyway, i kept him alone in a cage indoors last night, and today i tried introducing them to my flock of 3 hens and a grey goose. The 3 hens are a bit bigger than him ( they are piedmont blonde hens ) and didnt really like him, they tried to peck him but the goose hissed and quickly broke up the fight. Fearful they might try again to peck him, i closed him into a cage inside the coop, where the hens wont be able to peck his eyes out but will still be able to see him. I read online that's the best way to proceed. My question is: how long should he stay in there? i was thinking of letting him out on tuesday. And another question: is there a better way to proceed?

this particular male is extremely calm, the lady who gave it to me told me it was living with 2 hens and a rooster and she never experienced aggressive behaviour, i'm able to pick him up with both hands without getting much of a reaction from him, he also looooves his head scratches and falls asleep in my arms lol

It is not about aggressive behavior, it is about his wiliness to mate, often, few hens available. I guess he is really old if he was ok with another rooster and only 2 hens. Than integration of him into your flock is the only concern.

he's 1 year old at most from what i've been told :)

oh well, i freed him in the coop today. the hens peck him every once in a while, but they are not prolonged fights, i think they're just remaking the pecking order of the flock. I will keep an eye on him to make sure they're not hurting him.
