(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I personally had chickens as a child on my parent's ranch. We had 100 or more araconas. But we didn't protect them like we do today.
Today my fiance and I have 43 chickens, at least half are silkies (my sweet babies). The big girl group is mixed black copper Marans, Porcelain d'Uccle Bantams, cuckoo marans, easter eggers, golden laced Wyandotte, Buff Brahma Bantam, Golden Campine, Chocolate Easter Egger, Blue/black/Splash Blue Orpington, Partridge Olive Eggers, Rare White Maran or Super Blue Egg Layer ( I'm not sure I ordered mystery hatch and rare breed batch and a rare Maran batch too. But they have black skin feathers down legs and super thick coat of soft white feathers), and finally, we have 3 turkeys we think are 2 toms and 1 lady bird.
We first got day old chicks mailed to us in April, we lost 2 on the trip, several to pasty butt, and the rest to my fiance's retriever-lab cross. Since then, He built 2 beautiful and very secure coops, then we got the latest batch. We did lose a couple to pasty butt and I checked morning and night. The last one we lost because one of the turkeys pecked her on the head. That's when we separated my silkies from the rest.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 23 silkie blue, buff, black, white, and splash. And 20 of the above listed groups.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I mentioned all the crazy breeds we've been able to figure out above.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I found BackYardChickens.com when I was looking for info on what I soon discovered was scissor beak on one of my black silkies.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to draw, paint, and work on the online business I started
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Our crazy family consists of my fiance and I, his 16yr old daughter, my 15 year old grandson I adopted, his father and girlfriend, the ex-step mother, and my oldest son.
What made me finally join the group is because I have too many roosters and will need to sell a few. This is a great group and they treat their chickens like family same as me. I know I will also be needing advise constantly and this is a group I trust.
