Invisible fence

I too have had many problems over the years with roaming dogs killing chickens. It really doesn't do any good to shoot the dog other then stopping the current event. The neighbors just buy more dogs if any go missing. (many have contributed to the fertility of my orchard) The only thing I found that worked was to build a larger high fenced run, I've still have had to take care of dog packs running the fence line back and forth trying to get into the chickens. In a rural environment, it's a ongoing contest------I suppose that is why after two hundred years of people keeping chickens here, there are no wild chicken flocks about.

Yea, I've got 3 sides of a 50 x 90 area fenced already. It's attached to my enclosed run. I have 4ft weldwire with 2ft chicken wire on bottom. I've got the last of the posts set & hope to have the rest fenced soon. Hopefully this will protect the birds whem I'm home to sort of guard them. I plan to get 25 meat birds in the spring & this was the original intent of the new fenced area. I may seperate a section of it just for my layers to freerange in while the meaties are there.

I have 10 acres & most of the farms around me range from 10 to 30 acres. The dog owners property, of which I have never met, may only be a few acres away but our houses are definitly a mile apart. That's not really that far for a dog to run.
