Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

Pics
Wanted to take a bunch of photos of the older birds today, but camera battery had other ideas. LOL Here are a couple I managed to get along with some IB chick pics from my little test NYD hatch. Poor rooster had a wind from behind blowing his tail feathers awry, but that is his full attention/alert stance - tail straight up, upright stance.

These last two are a young pair growing up...this is where the camera died, so the only shots I got. Apparently this week they all decided to begin a molt, of all the times to start. Feathers were everywhere!
Nice pics...I am so glad I don't have all that snow to deal with...not that cold red mud is any better...lol

They are so upright aren't they? Not another bird on my place is as proud as they are

Although the Icelandics are pretty close behind. I plan to photograph my hatch today, wish me luck!

Do you think there is a correlation between the amount of white/yellow on the chicks and the amount of silver on the adults?

I like the nice full bodies on your hens.

Cute youngsters! very nice! Keep both of those in show shape, Connie

I'm counting down the days Kari I will post plenty of pics you guys know way more about this breed than I. I will need some guidance come culling time. Do we still plan on going with both the penciled and the birchen coloration.

Here are some pics of my NYD hatch. I didn't try to do them all, just some color samples.
Wild type ?

Silver penciled

Misc Birchen - some have a lot of light color, others hardly any.

I don't know, but I can tag the ones with more light and follow them along, I spose. Maybe marke them low, medium, and high yellow?

ETA: Marked 6 of them as dark, light, or medium. Will see how they grow out and if it points to anything.

I'll do the same.

I originally posted this as a separate thread under Breeds, Genetics, & Showing but I thought maybe some of you have had a chance to at least see this book in your travels.

Has anyone bought or read the following book-

"An Introduction to Color Forms of the Domestic Fowl: A Look at Color Varieties and How They Are Made" by Brian Reeder.

If so, please give my your opinion and/or ideas.

Is there another good resource for color genetics that any of you know of.
