Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

very pretty birdies @karimw
Kari, if you haven't figured by now, this is my DH Brett (iamfivewire)

I love your birds and the different colors. The personality is captured in your pictures, they are cool and they know it!

I haven't been on this thread in quite some time. Life just keeps getting in my way! LOL At any rate, I am looking to sell my Iowa Blues (amongst many other breeds) for the sole reason hubby landed a new job in another state and we can't take them with us. I have 9 IB laying hens and 2 IB roosters (2011 & 2013 summer hatches bought from Privett Hatchery in NM). This flock has been organically raised. Free-ranged on 11yrs+ chemical free acreage, supplemented with Scratch & Peck Naturally Free (corn-free and soy-free) feed, BOSS, and fresh organic veggie and fruit scraps washed down with a bucket of fresh water straight from our own private water well (no added chemicals). I'll take $100 for all of the IB's. Prefer local pick up in Pierce County, Washington.

Sorry you have to give them up! I hope you find a good home for them and can get some more when you get resettled.

Anyone looking for a fun chicken-related trip tomorrow, head on over to Coralville for the unveiling of the Iowa Blue Hen sculpture, one of eleven sculptures being dedicated.

11am is the dedication on the south terrace of the

300 East 9th St. · Coralville, Iowa 52241 USA

with a sculpture walk to follow.

Gotta get up early and head west. Hope to see you all there!

Coralville to Dedicate Sculptures in the Iowa River Landing

The City of Coralville will dedicate eleven sculptures in the Iowa River Landing on Saturday, October 19,at 11 am on the South Terrace of the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.

Following the dedication, which will include participation by several of the sculptors, attendees may take a guided walking tour.

The sculpture walk is approximately 1.6 miles along the streets and trails of the district.

The south lot of the Marriott will be open for free parking from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.

The City of Coralville received $145,000 in grant funding from Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs Great Places Program for the project. The sculptures highlight the work of
Iowa artists and the Iowa Writers’ Library, provide art for public enjoyment, enhance the environment of the Iowa River Landing, increase awareness of the area as a UNESCO City of Literature, and offer additional information about sculpture, literature, artists, and the City of Literature for public education. Each sculpture is tied to a work in the Iowa Writers

Library, which is housed in the Coralville Marriott, offering approximately 800 bookswritten by former students, g
raduates, and faculty of the nationally renowned Iowa Writers’ Workshop
at the University of Iowa. The Iowa Writers

Library is maintained by the Coralville Public Library. The City requested proposals from Iowa artists earlier this year. A selection committee reviewed the proposals for their durability, price, relationship to the theme, and overall appearance, selecting eleven for installation, with final approval by the City Council. The selection committee included Dr. Rami Boutros, Linda Farkas, Mayor Jim Fausett, Jan Finlayson, Alison Ames Galstad, Mitch Gross, Ellen Habel,Kelly Hayworth, Mary Lea Kruse, Christine Scheetz, and Pamela White.Participating sculptors and their sculptures are:

Ok, everyone. Here are the photos long awaited. We picked up Jake's three IaBs, two birchen pullets and the cockerel. Which category is the cockerel? SP or Birchen?

Lots of photos

Aren't they lovely? Jake really has raised some fine birds for us. We are so grateful to him for choosing us to care for his babies.

Your cockerel is SP. Congrats :)
When you take them out of their cages you'll have to post more pictures so we can see their type

"Betsy" is in place on Iowa River Landing road in Coralville, IA and the dedication was lovely.

I've placed a photo gallery up on the website with lots of photos, but here are a couple from yesterday. She looked GREAT! Great to see Kari and Curt and families there and to meet the artist, Amber O'Harrow. She did a remarkable job.

Wow, that's incredible! I'll definitely be stopping by to see it next time I'm in the area.
