Coralville to Dedicate Sculptures in the Iowa River Landing
The City of Coralville will dedicate eleven sculptures in the Iowa River Landing on Saturday, October 19,at 11 am on the South Terrace of the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.
Following the dedication, which will include participation by several of the sculptors, attendees may take a guided walking tour.
The sculpture walk is approximately 1.6 miles along the streets and trails of the district.
The south lot of the Marriott will be open for free parking from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.
The City of Coralville received $145,000 in grant funding from Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs Great Places Program for the project. The sculptures highlight the work of
Iowa artists and the Iowa Writers’ Library, provide art for public enjoyment, enhance the environment of the Iowa River Landing, increase awareness of the area as a UNESCO City of Literature, and offer additional information about sculpture,literature, artists, and the City of Literature for public education. Each sculpture is tied to a work in the Iowa Writers

Library, which is housed in the Coralville Marriott, offering approximately 800 bookswritten by former students, g
raduates, and faculty of the nationally renowned Iowa Writers’ Workshop
at the University of Iowa. The Iowa Writers

Library is maintained by the Coralville Public Library.The City requested proposals from Iowa artists earlier this year. A selection committee reviewed the proposals for their durability, price, relationship to the theme, and overall appearance, selecting eleven for installation, with final approval by the City Council. The selection committee included Dr. Rami Boutros, Linda Farkas, Mayor Jim Fausett, Jan Finlayson, Alison Ames Galstad, Mitch Gross, Ellen Habel,Kelly Hayworth, Mary Lea Kruse, Christine Scheetz, and Pamela White.Participating sculptors and their sculptures are:
