I just noticed today that the greener Bengal that I posted photos of recently also has bright blue earlobes. Pretty cool!

Beautiful birds in this thread! In my very basic backyard flock, my Speckled Sussex is actually more iridescent than my Black Australorp.

Beautiful birds in this thread! I my very basic backyard flock, my Speckled Sussex is actually more iridescent than my Black Australorp.

It seems like the black in a patterned bird is usually more iridescent than in a solid black bird...as if the pattern concentrates the iridescence in the smaller area on the feather. I had Jubilee Orpingtons and the rooster had some really amazing iridescence in spots. I used to have Black Australorps too and was never really impressed with their iridescence. Sumatra and Ayam Cemani have much more.

Update on one of the older dark Ceylon hybrids:

This Ceylon Hybrid is young so his color should get a whole lot better. He’s got a lot more black/less red which I’m excited about. He’ll get more red as he matures but he has less than his brothers by a good bit so I’m hopeful that he won’t get much.

I’m excited about this girl. Very PURPLE for a pure domestic and great color for a hen!
