Good Morning,
i borrowed a Brinsea Eco 20 and the temp is preset
i couldn't read the thermometer very well so i put in a digital one and the temp on it is 100.8 should i lower it...
i just put the eggs in last nite

I say that's close enough. They might hatch a day or so early.

Keep in mind, most digital thermometers do have an error rate of about a half to one degree hot or cold.... (the one I use could be up to 2 degrees hot or cold.)

ok i had 3 different thermomters in there and they all say something different

i think i am pretty close to 99.5 now
i'm goin with the one that came with the bator

I had three in mine at one point, and they all read something different. I did a very rough average and my chickens hatched pretty much on time. One day early, a couple a day late.....

Getting it as close as you can will do alot for your success rate. Since you have it dialed in, don't touch it now....

I was having the same problem with my GQF and someone suggested puttin the thermometer in a glass of ice water and ust the one closest to 32 F. That will be the most true. Just a thought....

Air temp in the bator will have a range rather than just one number, but the temp inside an egg does not change as rapidly as air temp. Mine goes from 98.8-100.6 or so, back and forth, but the egg temps stay around 99.5-99.7 according to my artificial egg thermometer.

Best way to find out is to do a hatch and see what day they hatch out on. There's probably a good reason someone dialed that bator to that specific number. A new incubator - how exciting!!!

What is an artificial egg thermometer? Sounds like something my husband has been obsessing over creating; did you buy or create yours?
