Castor'sl ook says 'Really, mom, do I have to put up with this? Will you look at him?'

"You are trying my patience, little one!"

(His furrowed brow says it all!)
His fur markings create that look. He frequently "ignores" her ... while twitching his tail for her to pounce on. And, if something (Sherlock) scares her, he's ready to attack it.

Well I came home to some heartbreaking news. Inky and her 2 brothers did not make it.

Fly high you 3 beautiful little souls.

As bad as it hurts I am extremely thankful her breeder pulled her from being for sale when they first noticed symptoms. Many would not have said a word and sold me a sick chicken. I could potentially be mourning the loss of many of my own as well tonight.

Oh no! How tragic 😢😢😢 but yes I am so glad you didn’t bring her home.

Did she say what the symptoms where? This time of year is when I find everyone starts getting ill - horses people chickens…. The weather changes, increase time spent inside, cold stress after getting used to the heat….

And then all the wild bird populations are starting to flock together to migrate. That means disease from them. It’s a manner of natural population control in wild animals, but not good for those with domestic flocks.

There will be a beautiful Polish out there for you I am sure. Have you thought about giving the silkies eggs to hatch?

Broody talk - or when they are laying an egg.

Have you had a broody one yet - I can't remember if you have.
Not so far. Aliss did the same thing on the nest, Esme didn't start until fairly recently but I can't remember if it was before or after Aliss died. It's one if my favorite chicken sounds 🥰

Awwww! So they are really bonding? That is so cool.

Mine don't sound exactly like that when broody.
Esme sounds like she is muttering to herself.
"This nest is a disgrace. I am going to have to spend all day putting each piece of straw back where it belongs. I really wish other people/hens wouldn't mess with my space. They always leave a mess. Do they think I have all day to do nest tidying chores? Maybe I will just have a bit of a sit down before I start. Gotta look after the eggs as well as arranging everything. There just aren't enough hours in the day...... etc. etc."
:love
