Hi all, I've been lurking on this thread for a while - mostly far back. I just wanted to comment on how gorgeous Tilly is, because I have 2 beautiful Polish myself. I originally got them because I thought my grandchildren would love them but I fell in love with their quirky, spunky little personalities. I will include pictures of them now and the big 8 girls as appropriate.
What are their names?

Maybe Laverne is picking on Clyde's feathers like she is w/ Mr P?

Well a while back someone was picking his face/neck feathers as they were bleeding. But he is less tolerant of the ladies picking at him than Mr P is. He is extremely good with the girls but unlike Mr P if they step out of line he is not afraid to fight back.

But I do not see any evidence of anyone picking his feathers now. He is just moulting and his tail feathers are finally growing back in!

If you have Amazon maybe get Missing Link to sprinkle into feed or some other available feather enhancer online? Since we started using we haven't had a bald bird since. We just noticed Silkie Suzu today had new follicle shells in her crest & body fluff yet never showed any baldness anywhere... same w/ regular feathered Dominique Dana. The feather enhancer really has made a difference & their appetite didn't stop drastically during moult like before. For 6 birds we just sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon over the wet treat food ~ corn, peas, chopped tomato, whatever they like. DH says he does it every other day.

We like this stuff cuz it also seems to improve digestion/appetite too. But I'm sure there are other good brands too.

Yes we can get it through Amazon here but it's terribly expensive.

I can purchase a 40kg bag of flax seeds= which would do the same thing. I have fed this to the horses for years and years - good protean and adds a lovely shine to their coats. Hmmm haven't fed that to the horses in a while (too much weight isn't good on an old horse's legs), but maybe I'll get a bag of the ground flax and mix it in with the chooks morning porridge. hmmmm....

The gray one is Jamie, for James Herriott of All Creatures great and Small, and the black white crested one is Martina, for Doc Martin.
I will share their stories soon if y'all are interested.

Great names - I have enjoyed many hrs of reading Mr Herriott's books and his working as a Vet. Did you know that James Herriott isn't his real name?! Doc Martin is just hilarious - great show for sure.

I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful feathered friends.

Oh my goodness a Polish roo! I can't even imagine the attitude! I just love the breed, although I wish they could see better. I am constantly trimming crests to try and help them. Mr. P's crest is too magnificent to mess with.
I didn't actually know that about Herriott.
