Unlikely to see any cats outside today, so here's one stalking something rodenty in the dyke just above the chicken plot last weekend when the weather was better.

Wow she sure is colour coordinated with her environment - beautiful scenery - thanks for sharing!

Oh my goodness a Polish roo! I can't even imagine the attitude! I just love the breed, although I wish they could see better. I am constantly trimming crests to try and help them. Mr. P's crest is too magnificent to mess with.
I didn't actually know that about Herriott.
He's a hot mess right now - has been for over a year with some youngsters picking at his pin feathers on his head and butt. He is sequestered away from the main gang because of this.

I am ruthless with his crest - I cut it right back so he can see, same with my silkies. Just neeed to be careful for pin feathers in the crest they bleed like crazy when you cut them!

He is a sweetie the hens all love him, he is a really awesome Roo. No attitude at all, just all well mannered gentleman.

Figured I should share their new names. I'll get better pictures in a while...having a bit of a hard time looking at chickens right now after burying NiNi...

These old names are hardly ever heard of now. Ruth, Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, George (for a boy), Bride (or Bridie), Maud, Lorraine... all names one rarely hears these days.

Hmmm Bridie would be a lovely name - I think @micstrachan has a hen name Bridie - or maybe I am thinking of her hen Bridge (spelling?).

Might be a good name for the Partridge Silkie chick, and if it's a boy I can change it to Buddy
😁
Hi Kelly. I agree Bridie is a cute name!

My girl is Bridge. It’s short for Bridgette. When Little Mill died, a couple of younger hens started attacking Bridge and I had to separate them. Then I had to nurse her back to health. She seems great now, but I still have to keep them separate. Flash, who was one of the ones attacking her, also died, but Flo would still like to get her.

Unfortunately, today Minnie Minnie is not feeling well. I got to them late this morning since I slept in and found her in the box and weak. She tells to be anorexic, so I tube fed her which I do occasionally. Unfortunately, she seemed to continue to the climb, so I started going into more crisis mode. She is sitting on a heating pad on the low setting in the kitchen with an area heater on. I placed a cup of water in front of her and she started drinking and drinking and drinking. She eventually got up and drank some more. But then she sat back down and I put her back on the heating pad.

I know better. I know that the first step is warmth and then hydration and then nutrition. But since she’s got this anorexic thing, I jumped straight to nutrition. Oops. I hope these measures will help. She seems slightly perkier, but still weak.

Here’s a recent picture of Bridge. She is over 9 1/2!

Here is Minnie Minnie, not doing so hot. The fact that she’s just content sitting on a warm towel is a concern.

The gray one is Jamie, for James Herriott of All Creatures great and Small, and the black white crested one is Martina, for Doc Martin.
I will share their stories soon if y'all are interested.
They are beautiful! And I love that they are lap chickens, too! 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰
