is 25$ a lot for a chicken?

Price sounds very reasonable to me. If you buy started pullets from a hatchery, you are looking at 30-40$ or more per bird, plus outrageous shipping charges

i found some orpington hens for sale they are different colors:clap. he is asking 25$ per hen is this a lot or is it a good price? i think i am going to buy 6 but i do not know if i am getting ripped off i really want them:fl[/QUOTE
If the parents are show birds with credentials, like best of show etc. then it would not be unheard of to pay 25. It all depends on what you want to do with your flock.
I bought a Black SL English Orp Cockrel at 8 weeks and a SL Blue English Orp pullet same age. payed 40 for the pair. The breeder I bought them from said they both have flaws, but their perfect for me. I just want a beautiful backyard flock of Orps

Last time I did the numbers it cost me $10-12 to raise a pullet to point of lay. I sell my culls for $15 and they are snapped up within hours of listing them. I charge (and get) $40 easily for a hen that lays a nice colored egg.

thanks everyone! i have decided to buy them and i am also going to buy 2 geese (very good guard birds for hens) and some meat birds too! thanks again:D
Let us know how it works out.
The fact that you've bought from this person before, and were happy, bodes well.

I bought 4 hens from a breeder in texas for $20 each but they charged me an extra $5 for an EE. I think it depends on your location.
