Is 9wk old Lil Peep a Roo and what type of chicken is he/her?

We found them on July 14th, and people that have chickens told us they thought they were about 2wks old. I just

counted from there... I haven't ever had chickens(till now). I got them an indoor coop and pen and then used a steel dog kennel and designed an area right by our porch for them. My 21yr old daughter went to TSC and got 4 pullets thst we about a week old and much smaller than these three orphans. She got 3 Americauna and one Buff Orpington. They all seem to be super happy. They love my organic vegis and nasturtians from my garden. Seriously, I'm just winging it. Doing my best to keep them safe and happy.

I totally agree, they are extremely lucky you found them! Not many people would take in stray chicks, not having them before. You must be a big-hearted person.

I love that you have done this. Looking at your coop and run though, you'll need bigger for both really if you keep all 7 of them, unless you free range?

He and two others were possibly dumped near my home. They were found in a nature preserve, middle of the gravel road, across from my home. There is one that looks just like him but smaller, shorter feather on her feet, and a light straight- line comb. The third is White with pinkish beak and legs, tiny feather on one of her toes.
Lil Peep above, stands very upright and has very long feathers going down his feet. His comb started changing and became lumpy and red a couple weeks ago. He is also getting blue/teal feathers and has some bright white feathers under his wings. I am a new chicken momma now. They are all 3 very sweet. I was told by TSC person he may be a Brahma cross?

Oddly enough, the white feathers appearing is something I've never heard about. Do you mean molting into them, or just them growing randomly?

It is fairly common for black chickens to grow a few white feathers in their wings when they are young, even if they will be completely black when they grow up. I don't know why this happens, just that it does.

Thank you for the advice. I have plans for the next upgrade. I have really nice wood framed greenhouse in my backyard. My property is an acre. I plan to convert the green house into a chicken coop with a large run. Do you think I can wait for spring? It they are brahma mixes and the others are amercauna and orpington will they be ok till then? We have tons of predators and I want to take my time making it super safe. Overhead I have bald eagles, owls, hawks. We have tons of coyotes, black bear, raccoons, even an occasional cougar. I have them right up near our house currently because of this. I have wire under sand, steel pen, that is completely covered in wire and has a steel roof. I got an auto door on this little coop. I really want to keep them safe and happy. Any advice is appreciated.

He has had them the whole time we've had him. He also getting some copper on the back of his head/neck area which made me think of black copper marans. I think his is beautiful.

He has had the very bright long white feathers under and near the end of each wing, since I have had him.

[First time Chick mom]

My EE is dark, she reminds me of dark pheasant. She had the same thing, two white long feathers in her wings. She has lost it a couple of weeks ago. I forgot about it until I saw your pictures. She just turned 18 weeks last Tuesday and laid her first egg, Wednesday. She also has that green sheen on her dark feathers. Who knows, maybe it will be a pullet after all?? I have no clue, too new to the whole chicken thing. LOL

I plan on upgrading them to a nice greenhouse in my back yard. We have an acre. I want to take my time to make it perfect against predators. How long do you think I have? The kennel is 6x10. I have a dirt bath area, roots, vegi treat bag...
