Is a heat source needed?

Also adding heat to your coop will increase moisture in the air and that is what causes frostbite.
Much worse than them being a little chilly.
i know many people with pet ducks who do use (safe) heaters in their coops and it makes their ducks way happier

mine don’t live in an outdoor coop, so heating isn’t an issue for them 🤷‍♀️

not even gonna argue lol people can do what they want, my ducks are my babies though and i’ll do whatever to make sure they are as healthy and comfortable as possible (plus i already said they don’t live in an outdoor coop anyways)
Just letting you know that a heat source isn’t always the best answer

You a tryin To tell me those ducks are happier than my ducks? What are you a duck psychic? 🤣
They'll be real happy when an ice storm hits and their heat is knocked out and they all die.
Actually they might be super dooper happy because they will be in a "better place" right? :lau

Yep. Everyone is free to do what they choose to do, what makes them feel good about themselves. Not my problem. I'm not really trying to argue.
I just like to point out the reasons it can be a bad idea for those who are just starting out with birds and making these kinds of decisions for the first time.
I hate for someone to think oh I have to do this in order for my birds to be happy..
And end up having their coop burn down, or a power outage and all their birds wind up in a bad way.

You might want to check out a Cozy Coop panel heater, I have one and my silkies and babies snuggle up to it when it's cold. You can also build a 'box' and put the heater as the back wall but leave the front open.

Elderly animals feel the cold more than youngsters, if it makes her more comfortable then that's the name of the game.

again, my ducks don’t live in an outdoor coop so don’t have a heater. everyone i know who does has very happy ducks though

my ducks are definitely super happy lol, you can check their instagram @fatty_and_friends if you don’t believe me ❤️

Anyone on here could tell you that a heat source isn’t good
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your gal Trayc.... Having elderly pets die is like losing a family member, I have 4 elderly horses here and I dread the day I need to make decisions on them - 3 of them were born here!

All we can do for our pets is ensure they are fed and happy, which you have been doing in spades it sounds like.

And newbies like myself look for other peoples ways to see what works for others. But other things like using a heat source i know aren’t good for birds.
Pointing out, not only can heat sources burn down a coop. It can also cause a lot more moisture when it snows and the snow melts, causing birds to have respiratory issues
