Well, back in May, we built a small chicken ark with the intent of getting 3 pullets. We got to the seller's house and saw all the pullets and ended up with 4, but one was bad so we took her back and traded her plus bought another one so it became 5. Then a few weeks ago, a BYCer about 80 miles from here was giving away some mixed breed/EE chicks (hopefully will grow up to be olive eggers!), so I snagged up 3 of those. It looks like one is going to be a rooster, so he's going to have to go eventually. We were up to 8 chickens until today, when my barred rock (the only one whose wing hadn't been clipped yet) got out of the yard, and we cannot find her. I am so upset. Her name's Juanita, and she has the best personality of all my girls. I just hope she's safe and has access to food and water wherever she is.
I just told my husband today that I have plans for another small coop for the 3 new EE little ones (ranging in age now from 2 weeks to 3 weeks), and he is going to be all gung-ho tomorrow getting it built. Totally awesome to be married to a guy with power tools. Buzz buzz vroom.
