Is anyone else hatching all winter long?

I bought my 2 granddaughters (sisters, 12 and 10) an incubator for Christmas and NEED to check it out... right??? I am going to try to have some ready to hatch Christmas day so they don't have to wait 21 days to see them hatch out. They are both in FFA and love helping with my chicks.

i got eggs today to finish my last empty rack,, have more eggs come'n friday,,, and behold i have eggs ready to set for friday,,,,which means,, full bator again. hehe

I am seriously thinking about having a couple of hatches this winter.

That is true.

My last eggs of the year are coming about the 14th. They'll be hatched right before winter officially starts.

We had chicks hatch last Christmas. It was really great, and I didn't even think about it when I set the eggs.

They are going to LOVE it!

Well I say load the bators until then!!!!!! And spring can always come early!

Take a month, maybe two off, and start again in Feb.

The only problem with that is they will start laying AFTER spring is over, the time when everyone wants eggs.

HEY you could always tell him you need to hatch the purebreeds this winter so that you can sell the high dollar eggs this spring.....Farmers recognize a GREAT business plan!

I've had Christmas chicks for the last several years. I don't know that i will this year. I haven't had a bator on since August. I'm putting all my breeders together in my barn so I have electric to keep water from freezing over the winter, thus my grow out pens are in use, making it nearly impossible to hatch. With that said if my lavender split ameraucanas or black orps get to the point of lay I may have to make space to hatch the eggs. Oh or if I find black orp eggs to hatch, then I will.

Or if the right thing comes along, or if I just can't take it anymore. Who knows I'm crazy, so there isn't much point to making a plan.

But I am proud of myself for not hatching anything for 3 months.
