Is anyone else waiting for a chick order? CHICK PICS!!

GothChick - That is brilliant! I was actually thinking just this morning of doing something similar. None of the feed stores in this small town or any of the towns close carry chicks! I had to drive 2 hours in March to get my chicks. I think I will order some in the spring to sell for sure! I could always keep the extras! :)

I also am developing favorites among my bantams and there are some that even as chicks are REALLY LOUD, screeching and flapping, that are suspected roosters. Perhaps I should put an ad up before they lose their cuteness!

I agree with McMurray being more expensive, especially for small orders. The reason I started ordering from Ideal about 20 yrs ago was their great prices! Then I saw their quality and I am stuck on Ideal now! I like that the only minimum is $25.00, also I like the way they charge for shipping at 15 cents each rather than lump sum amounts.

I hope they run another great special like the 99 cent bantams, although the surprise special pullets are starting to look good at 25 for $1.40 each!

Proud parent of:
11 Black Australorp Pullets
2 Black Australorp Roosters and
24 Assorted Bantams (11 feather-legged and 13 non feather-legged)
(not to mention the 12 Rhode Island Red Pullets I am fostering)
6 lovely Easter Egger Pullets that are laying nicely
2 tanks full of tropical fish
and Smoky, a VERY NEEDY Shepherd mix rescue dog!

I have been looking at getting the Surprise Pullets as well. Right now its a bit crowded at my house so I'm waiting for my first batch to leave. Another thing I offer is started birds for people. Where I live we have a lot of farmers and people that want egg laying chickens but don't want to deal with the chicks because they don't have the time or supplies to raise them. Most of the people around here don't loo at their chickens as anything special and just want to throw them out in the coop. What I do is raise chickens until they are feathered out enough to go outdoors and then I sell them. I have had a lot of people interested in this option as well. It also gives me a chance to see what the assortment chicks will look like and keep some neat ones for myself.

I just placed my order with Ideal last week and my peeps are to ship out November 3, which I feel is FOREVER from now! I can't wait and I'm so very excited!

I will be sure to post pictures as soon as they arrive!

So far, mine from Ideal are healthy, happy little chicks, they're 6 days old today and learning how to spread their little wings. It's so cute, 1 starts and then they all go

they've started sleeping in different groups, some like it by the heat lamp and some like it by their old box.

CountryTXChicks - Congratulations! I take it they all arrived safely, that is wonderful! I, too got 5 silkies (there were 2 more that did not survive the journey.) I really could not recognize any of the other breeds the day I got them.

IdealisticRoo - Thank you! Everyone arrived safely and I didn't recieve any extras, but I was already pushing the limit with DH, so I'm kinda glad I got exactly 25. Everyone seems to be doing very good, eating and drinking and running around

I Am going to be posting pictures as soon as I get them uploaded. I will post them here and also in the breeds category. This is the first time I have ordered bantams and the only breed I have ever worked with are the Black Tailed White Japanese so I'm bantam challenged
