Is anyone starting eggs in the incubator today? Tuesday, May 26

Its been a busy couple of days here. Prior to putting in my lemon blue cochins I had put in 190+/- quail eggs. They have been hatching like popcorn. All the pipping and zipping created quite a noisy hatching experience. Of those eggs I have 150 that made it to the brooder. I still have two more to hatch. There were several that just died in egg. But I could hear the final three pipping in their shell. They are keeping my second set of lemon blues company. The lemon blues are set to hatch on Friday. My first set of lemons (funny use of the term!! LOL) ended up with one live chick. If I get any from the second set I will be thrilled. They seemed to suffer from the trip to our home. Of a total of 20 Lem Blues only 8 (from two different breeders) have made it to the hatcher. One of those came out a couple of days ago. It was oozing. I have 6 remaining eggs. Here's to hoping for a good hatch!

Thanks, I really have to get camera/computer literate. Everytime I get the hang of a program dh changes it or buys a different comp. I have a difficult enough time with the old stuff!~! LOL Will try to get pics of my quail in the aquarium and the lemon blue. They are sooooo cute!

All that chirping and whooting. Those babies get your attention! I'm reallly enjoying the new species. I've done chickens for many years, but never quail. I'm really looking forward to all the fowl. Goaties and chickens and quail, oh,my.....

Well I went & already shared this on the raising chicks topics but having been here for this long waiting on our hatches I need to share this here too. I took 2 of my hatches & slipped them under a hen that had a single chick. I thought it would be better for the single chick & I still think that but now it's the dark of the night & I can't see if she's rejected them or accept them or what. She sounded happy & was cooing away when we walked away but lord I'll feel better when I see them in the morning.

Please cross your fingers this goes smooth.

I have ten in the hatcher due tomorrow and three have hatched already. One silkie and two cochins have hatched and there is a pip in one of the other ones. I am so hoping a few more hatch as my last couple of hatchings have gone south and they were shipped eggs that I really wanted. I am

Mom2cool - I bet they will be fine! I've done that before with good success. I understand the worry though. Let us know how the new little family does

pbjmaker thank you & they looked to be doing just fine this am. it was kind of cute because the chick were running all around the hen when I went out there. The hen wanted out of that coop but I am rotating the pen with another hen with 3 chicks also & so I made her stay in & just gave them food & water. I let the other chickens out of their coop & when I had come back with water & food for the others I could see the 2 new chicks along with the original had all gone back under momma hen who was looking content..... I think life with a broody hen & good momma is very good.... LOL And I don't mind saying I'm so amazed how different life is for them being with their momma. The other chicks upstairs are in their brooder with the light, water & food & they're happy enough but I worry about drafts etc & mean while those chicks outside were running all around their momma originally even though it's damp & chilly.... If the indoor chicks has a room with conditions like that for just a few minutes I would be worried... LOL

Anyway we're all doing much better

Better late than never, here are a couple of chicks from our first hatch ever! We have 3 like the yellow one and 5 like the black one. (There were 6 hatched, but I had to cull one that was dying.) This particular little yellow chick is my favorite of them all!

And here are all of them. We are so proud you would think they were 8 little human babies. The yellow one with all the red on its back is my favorite - same one that's in the first picture. It's so sweet!
