Upgrading is not fun for everyone especially when the upgrade throws away good uncomplicated things for unnecessary complicated things.Upgrading is fun
Also, the version of the software we're on now is unsupported, and it will stop receiving security updates at the end of this year.
The trouble with moving up to 7 is that it is also unsupported and none of the other software that I use will work on it.Gosh would be sorry to see you go sure hope you can figure out I have 7 pro it is the only one since 98 I have been able to tolerate I understand the fight
I wouldn't say that the new version is really more complicated to use than the old one. It will also eliminate our need for some add-ons, by it having more features built-in, and thus reducing complexity. Also, features which are built into the core are better integrated with the software, and are more consistent with other features, making the site easier to use, and further reducing complexity. Additionally, in the last 24 hours, 58% of BYC users used mobile devices, and the new version of the software is better optimized for use on mobile devices, once again reducing complexity for the majority of BYC members.Upgrading is not fun for everyone especially when the upgrade throws away good uncomplicated things for unnecessary complicated things.
Using unsupported software on your own computer is very different from using it on a site that gets millions of visitors. We need to be careful when it comes to security. The consequences of a security breach of a site of this size could be very bad, and it would take a lot more work to clean up said breach than it would be to keep the site up to date. Also, we value the privacy of our 380,000+ members very much, which is another reason why we care about security. The version of software that I am using is unsupported and has been so for years but all the newer stuff makes it much more difficult for personal control. I suppose that once BYC reaches the point that it will no longer work with my antiquated software that I won't have to be concerned about BYC anymore and will become just another casualty of updates.
You could move to Linux, and run whatever old software you need from within a virtual machine. The trouble with moving up to 7 is that it is also unsupported and none of the other software that I use will work on it.
At no point did I say that BYC should not upgrade. Unfortunately in today's world the vast majority of updates ignore compatibility for older systems.I wouldn't say that the new version is really more complicated to use than the old one. To the best of my knowledge, that is not true. Linux will only run limited software and only one of the ones that I use. Even my preferred email program will not run in Linux. You could move to Linux, and run whatever old software you need from within a virtual machine.
I don't like change ether only if IT'S for the better. I'm still learning how to operate this site.Really? Oh boy! You must really want it to upgrade.I'd love it if we could stay like this for a while more....but, whatever.
