Well, I guess its going to change and there is nothing I can do about it. I'll just stand back and watch.
(Or rather - hide under a chair and watch!)

Maybe, but there's only so long that old software can be supported for, before it becomes impossible to do. In general, once advancement begins, it becomes very difficult to roll back, and things don't go back to how they once were. BYC must advance with it, or we will be left behind, regardless of whether said advancement is "good" or "bad". It is arguably subjective. At no point did I say that BYC should not upgrade. Unfortunately in today's world the vast majority of updates ignore compatibility for older systems.
That's why I mentioned a virtual machine. Also, Linux supports a lot of software, but it depends on the distribution, more specifically what package manager is used. The server that BYC is hosted on runs Linux, along with most web servers. At no point did I say that BYC should not upgrade. Unfortunately in today's world the vast majority of updates ignore compatibility for older systems.
To the best of my knowledge, that is not true. Linux will only run limited software and only one of the ones that I use. Even my preferred email program will not run in Linux.
Windows seven loses support in December of this year. We have to get any pc using it off of our network within to months of that date.Gosh would be sorry to see you go sure hope you can figure out I have 7 pro it is the only one since 98 I have been able to tolerate I understand the fight
Anything with the word 'Upgrade' is never simple.Wow, I didn't know this thread would get so big! It was just a simple question.
For programmers maybe...not so much for most usersUpgrading is fun![]()
Sure, but.....In general, once advancement begins, it becomes very difficult to roll back, and things don't go back to how they once were.
I get this part. A lot of tech gets 'upgraded' because they can not because it necessarily needs to be. I can kinda understand the want to play with the programming and do new things...a lot of it is economic 'we are upgrading and yes you have to pay for new software and hardware'. <groan>Upgrading is not fun for everyone especially when the upgrade throws away good uncomplicated things for unnecessary complicated things.

Maybe, but you can drive your car past the time that the breaks are reccomended to be replaced, and you might be fine for a while, but something is likely to go wrong eventually. The same goes for running unsupported software which won't get further security updates.I get this part. A lot of tech gets 'upgraded' because they can not because it necessarily needs to be.
