Is he just protecting chicks, or should I cook him?

This is new to me. When you say "rest" the meat. Is that like when the deer meat "ages" in the freezer for a week before being butchered?
Can I rest the rooster in the refrigerator, or do I need to freeze him?
Thanks! I want the recipe to turn out good. Something about this bird needs to.

Any advice on how to do the deed?
I am embarrassed to ask. I am a hunter. I have shot and killed many an animal, cleaned, skinned, butchered and cooked them.

This one is different. I have never been a farmer and raised an animal only to kill it. And it bothers me a little to be killing him out of anger or revenge. I have never felt anger toward any deer or elk that I have killled, but rather admiration and respect.

So how do I do it?

Wow. I can't believe all the posts about mean roosters! I've only had a mean roo once, and it was ONLY because I left the neighbors in charge when I went away for the week. Came back and my roo was dangerous! I culled him right away. Never before, or since then have I had any trouble with a roo...and I have had alot of them

You're not killing him out of anger or revenge, but simply protection. I usually put two nails in a block close enough together to hold his head and stretch his neck out enough to axe him and remove the head. It is hard the forst time, but you being a hunter won't have a problem

Good luck doing the deed. The day my roo comes at me is the day he gets the axe. I love him to death, but he better NOT even think about it. He's a year and a half and has NEVER come at me. He even eats out of my hand and I didn't even raise him.

each and every bird will have their own personality. If he has never done this before i would hold off on the chicken and noodles! Its his job to protect his girls and his offspring, wouldnt you do anything for your kids. Give him a chance and see if his agression goes away or mellows out alittle. BUT ALWAYS LOOK OUT FOR WHATS BEST FOR YOUR CHILDREN! Good luck, i hope you dont have to eat him!
