Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

Ok, now back to business!

Ordering the pens was still a good idea! It just saves you the work and time of building that part yourself! And a plastic doghouse is actuslly a good idea! I was going to suggest that! Im all for the plastic stuff just cause its so easy to keep clean! You already know I use those plastic dog crates Ive got for all kinds of stuff! Those pens will probably work out great cause theyll be easy to move around to fresh patches of yard when Tweety and Midnite scratch up the patch theyre on. Have you ever seen those igloo doghouses? You could drill a couple holes to put roosts thru and make an awesome house for em.Itd be easy to clean too, just lift it up!
Well just have to put our heads together for MY new coop. Ill have to build one when we move. Weve decided for sure were going to. The tricky part has been finding a place that fits the bill. I thought Id found it yesterday and called to set up a day to look at it and discuss the details but it was already taken. Bummer.
I still havent got any pics posted and sorry bout that! I cant seem to get enough time to switch my pics to the computer. The season is starting to change here and its been hectic!Harvest time and planting time are the busiest times of the year! I wish again that we lived closer so I could send you some of the tasty stuff Ive been canning! The chickens have definitely been extra happy! Theyve been getting all kinds of goodies! I throw them the garden plants and vines and veggies and fruit and seeds that Im done with or dont need now.Plus the corn is getting harvested now so they get fresh corn to munch on!
Thanks for the great advice about the baby cat! We really do have a lot in common! Ive grown up taking care of hurt or sick or abandined animals and everything you suggested was exactly right! Im definitely going to add some bottles to my first aid kit! Id like to find some in lots of different sizes so Ill have one for anyone, no matter how big or small they are. I might get a hot water bottle too. Ive always used a heating pad but a nice squishy water bottle might feel more like a warm mama than the flat heating pad!
The poor little cat didnt make it. It wasnt breathing the second morning but I gave it cpr(I know it seems extreme but I wasnt ready to give up if I could still do something) anyway, I got him breathing again but had to do it again a few hours later and I could tell by afternoon I was only prolonging the inevitable. So I just carried him around til it was time for him to go. At least he was warm and safe and not alone. Bless his little soul, it just breaks my heart when babies have to go. Ugh, now Im crying again. I wish I could be as tough as I like to think I am when things like this happen! I just hate it when I get ones that are too far gone for me to help, but at the same time Im glad because theyd have been all alone if I hadnt.
Enough sad news! Next post is not going to end with bad news! Theres been too much of that lately and Im ready for some good news!

And Im going to get some pics on here for sure! Im wanting to take some of the trees when theyre all different colors!

Ok so the cages got here and they are really nice, i am going to set them up and when i do i will send you a picture!

You were the one that gave me the plastic doghouse idea! I agree with you, plastic is the easiest to clean by far!
Oh yeah, the igloo houses are super nice, a small doorway so that the wind and rain doesnt get in and then a big back, oooh that would be nice, i was going to get one for Balto but instead i got a wooden one, it is warmer i think but wood is no good for chickens so that is a fantastic idea, let me go check the prices on amazon, one sec.
Ugh, to expensive, way to expensive, oh well, we came up with one good idea, i am sure we can think of another one, and when i say we, i mean you, haha, just kidding! I have this really big plastic sort of bin, when i get the cages set up i will send you a pic of that as well and we can see what to do with it!
Oh, i cant believe you are moving, that sucks, it will take a lot of work to get set up, but this way you can make a beautiful new chicken coop, like some people on here do, they are HUGE!! But most of them are wooden, i dont really see why not to get a wooden coop, i mean you know how to get rid of mites so it wont be a problem, anyway, there are some good ideas on here.
Dont worry about the pictures, i said i would post pictures to and then i forgot and started doing something else...
Oooh lucky chickens, poor you!

Well today i realized that Midnight and Tweetie are SOOOO spoiled, i had put some old grapes and some pomegrant in a bowl and mixed it up, i was so excited because that is all the other chickens favorite, one or the other but both of them together, they go crazy for it, so anyway i take it out to them and put it in a bowl and i see them run up to it, i was like oooh i finally found something they like, nope, they ran up to me and compeletly ignored their food.... The thing is they eat their corn and they like it so i dont know how they dont like yummy fruits, i guess we have to stick to egg if i want them to have a nice treat... I ended up giving my yummy mix to the rest of the flock, they loved it.
I am so sorry about the kitten, you were a great substitute mother though, you did everything you could and you should be happy that you gave him a loving home for the time that he had left! I know it is always sad when they have to die at such a young age but it is better than living and suffering, there are so many stray cats here and i always feel so bad but it is nice to know that a little one died quickly by being hit by a car than living a terrible life, suffering every moment, not that the little kitten would suffer at all, i am just trying to make you feel better!

I have to go now, talk to you soon!

Hey those are great bottles! Whered you get them? Online? Those are exactly what I need! Lol, I thought you meant there were dog and monkey designs ON the bottles! Is that one for an actual monkey? Did it just happen to come with it or do you have monkeys there?
Thats exciting that thr pens are already there! That was quick! I cant wait to see Tweety and Midnite in their new spot! I didnt realize those igloos were so exspensive! Especially for something thats just a plastic bubble! Your right tho! We'll figure it out! Lol, they really are two spoiled chickens! Fancy pens and eggs for breakfast! I cant believe theyd turn their beaks up at grapes and pomegranate! Im glad the others were smart enough not to skip it over! Midnite and Tweety must be the steak and potato kind of guys, lol! Hey thats an idea for a treat! Have you tried giving them a baked potato? Mine go nuts for baked potatoes!
Thanks for being so sweet bout the little cat! Im glad someone else doesnt think it a waste of time trying to save them!
Yeah, it does suck having to move. The only reason I finally agreed to it is because Im ready to have some of the "luxuries" normal people do(running water being the biggest lure) and were wanting to be closer to my family(I wish that meant farther from his, but you know that old saying...if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.lol) anyway, Im trying to be excited about a fresh start but at the same time I hate change. Ive been having fun thinking up plans for a new chicken coop tho! Until I actually find something I can only make general plans, but Ive been thinking Id like to combine the coop/yard and my garden and plants somehow. And Ive been thinking a small pond and fountain would be neat in the chicken yard somehow. If they wouldnt fall in and drown! Theres plenty of time to think on it tho, since the search for a place is moving so slow!
Ok, Im going to switch to the computer now and put some pics up!

Ok, the first 2 pics I thought were funny cause I put a Tweety statue in the run and of course, you have Tweety! The chickens kept going up to it like they couldnt figure it out. It looked like they were standing there talkin. Lol.

The next ones are just chicken pics!
Then I threw in some non chicken pics just cause I got on a roll with em! That bug is a preying mantis I found in one of my roses, they are great cause they eat so many bad bugs! It looks like an alien staring at the camera.
Then one of Buddy and Cosmo being buddies. Its funny cause he HATES all the other cats but him and cosmo are like long lost friends! That last one is the baby cat, I know it sad but he looks so sweet in his blankies I couldnt help it!

Ok, so Ive got some interesting news this time. It starts sad but doesnt end that way. I lost some more of my chickens and I just knew it had to be more to all this so I did some serious thinking and investigating. At first I thought maybe they were eating something poisonous so I went around the whole property looking for anything that fit the bill. I found some but I couldnt see any signs where theyd eaten on them but I got rid of what I could anyway, just in case. Then I was stumped so I got out my veterinary books and started going thru them. I found one that matched the symptoms of the sick ones and it mentioned gapeworms. So after Id read about it in the book, I got online and looked into it and found where others had the same problem. I called 12 vets before I found one that knew bout chickens and he agreed after I told him what was going on. So he said the only sure way to know was to do a necropsy. This parts gross so I wont go into details but I did that to the last one to go and sure enough, thats what it was. I think thats whats been happening all summer and I was too stupid to realize. I just feel absolutely horrid about the ones that would still be here if Id just looked into it sooner. Well, I finally found a way to treat it and found a place that had the medicine and got it. They were all roosted up by the time I got back home but first thing this morning I took them out 1 by 1 and gave em the wormer and a dose of antibiotic for any secondary infection they mite get. I have to do it again tomorrow and the day after, then again in 10 days. So now Im going to get a few gallons of bleach to disinfect everything until I can figure out how to move the whole coop and run to a fresh spot. Apparently the worms are spread from wild birds and earthworms and snails. Sigh. So I guess the good news is that Im more educated now and it wont happen again. Or if it does, Ill know the signs and will be able to stop it.
So on top of all that, one of the young cats-Shelby-got hit by a car the other night. The people actually stopped thank goodness and Im happy to say that hes going to be just fine. He definitely used some of his nine lives, but is already healing and about back to acting like his old self. Lucky cat!
So have you set up your new pens yet? Im excited to see how they work out! Ive gotta go and get busy disinfecting but Ill talk to you soon!
