Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

Yep onling, i find some great things online.
Yes, haha, it is an actual monkey bottle it came with the rabbit one and puppy ones so i just got it!

No, there arent any monkeys here but it would be pretty funny if we did. Yeah, it was very very quick, only two day! Hey good idea, baked potato, i never thought of that... Haha, yeah, running water WOULD be nice for a change!

I dont think a pond and fountain would be good for chickens, once i just had a really big tub of water so that i didnt have to keep filling it up and one of them had drowned in it...
Nice chickens, haha i like tweetie, like you said i have one too! You have lots of firewood i see, what do you use it for, i mean i know you use it for the fire but it is summer time so what are you using it for now? I am going to send this and then look at the other page and post a reply to that, and then tell you my news and post some pics!

Your chickens are so cute, and Buddy is one good looking fellow! We have praying mantises here as well but they are green not really grey and i dont usually see them in plants, they are usually on my front porch... Buddy is protecting little Cosmo from the meaner cats. Ohhhh the little kitten is so cute, may he rest in piece, did you make him a little rock with his name on it?
Ew, i looked up those worms and couldnt eat for a while, that is so gross, i am sorry that you had to go threw that, thats terrible... And a necropsy, oh poor you, at least now you know...
sickbyc.gif
And i know, thank you for that lovely info (
tongue.png
) i am sure it will come in handy some day, hopefully it wont but who knows, if it does happen i will know what it is...
Ok so i havent been on in so long because on the first of October it rained (
ep.gif
) and the day before it was like 26 degrees Celsius (78 degrees Fahrenheit) nice and warm, the chicks where enjoying the nice air, everybody was but on the 1st it rained like i said and ever since then it was been really cold... It is so strange, no one was expecting it.... So i had to go get everone warm because it is a pretty bid change and it was hard work, today finally i am pretty well done, only Midnight and Tweetie left but they are pretty good as well, something happened to my camera and its not working but i figured out how to take pictures with my phone so i will take some soon, i just have to go shopping and i will be right back, the pictures though are going to be very low quality though, jsut so you know because my phone isnt nearly as good as a camera, ok bye for now, i will be back soon!:D

We have green mantises too but every one n a while I see these grey ones. I did make a rock for the little cat. I just put little cat on it cause thats what I was calling him.
yeah it was hard opening up the chicken but I knew I needed to make sure. Ive never been very squeamish about stuff like, I grew hunting and taking care of hurt animals, setting bones or cleaning cuts and gashes and ive even had to give stitches a few times(a couple of those times were on jim. I swear if a tree was going to fall itd find his hard head to fall on.) Anyway I can dress and skin a deer without any problem but when it came to making that first cut I thought I was going to be sick, i could hardly keep my hands steady. Its different when its one of your pets. I hope I dont EVER have to do anything like that again! I guess it was worth it tho since it saved every one else. All of them have recovered now! Even the 3 that I didnt think would make it thru the day(one of em was Georgie) but they all back to normal. I have to do it again in a few more days but im so grateful it all worked out!
Im glad you got all yours buttoned up and warm! Weve been having that same weather! Rain and cold! We even got the wood stove fired up. Thats what all that wood was by the way! It takes ALOT of wood to keep this house warm all winter and we start in summer cutting trees and splitting and stacking it for winter. We learned the hard way its easier to have it ready instead of trying to do it as we need it when its cold and miserable out! So what did you do to winterize your birds? I bet that was a heck of a job!
So I got to wondering about when my chickens would start laying and then I wondered if any of your chicks have gotten old enough to lay? I thought about Tweety and midnite crowing and figured if they were girls that would mean theyre old enough to lay right? And arent they the youngest of the chick groups? Was all that confusing? The "chicks" I got in the spring are going on 6 months old Oct 19. (Day before my bday! Ill have to make em a treat!)Thats about the age most start laying right? I wonder if them being sick will delay it any? The Biddies and the 2 other older girls havent laid any for over a month now, but they havent been laying very regular anyway the last year, I think cause of their age. I know the day length has a lot to do with it but my brahmas and sussex are posed to lay even in winter months so I assumed the daylight hours didnt affect them as much as it does some of the others. What do you think? I can look it up, I know, but I was interested in what you thought. Do yours slack up in the winter?
Bummer about your camera! Doesnt that just figure? I dont care if the pics arent "good" I just enjoy seeing em! Its fun!
well I gotta go for now. I need to figure out how tomake all my pants smaller.dont suppose you know bout sewing? Its gotten to where they look ridiculous and I cant afford to go out and buy new clothes. If I cant figure something out and jim makes one more joke, im afraid ill have to fatten his lip! LOL

Wow skinning a deer, i could never do anything like that... Doing it to your pets is even harder i bet, and your husband!
gig.gif

Well i basically just added extra things to their coop, i put some cardboard boxes(i have a couple lying around, i just collect them because who knows when they will come in handy...) , a couple of old blankets, i moved their food and water dishes to a warmer place (not in the roosting room because its pretty small, you will see by the pictures),i covered up the little doorway and put some grass in the roosting room to keep the heat in, that is basically all i do every winter because it never goes below 0 degrees so that is something i can be thankful for... I havent done all of that yet, the blankets and gass arent done yet, i have to find some nice grass first and find the old blankets...
Thruthfully, i am not sure if they have started laying yet, they are all mixed with the big ones now because they are big enough to defend themselves, i am not getting many eggs lately though, i think its because it moulting season now and all their evergy is put towards that, some of them probably have started laying though... I know that the oldest 5 have started laying, there are only two of them but they hatched earlier than some of the others.
Your birthday is October 20th? Happy birthday for then! They should start laying i would think but be prepared to find a couple of tiny or funny shaped eggs because when they start laying, who knows what happens to them, i guess they just have to get used to it, you also might find an egg in the middle of the coop, again because they are new at it, it is quite funny.
I personally think that Tweetie and Midnight started crowing so early because of the eggs that i used to give them every morning, they are already bigger than all the other roosters that are older than them, the oldest roosters have started crowing but the younger ones havent yet.
Yeah, mine slack up a lot in the winter, maybe because of the cold or the dark, i dont know but i see why some people have lights in their coop, so that their chickens have more hours to lay eggs.
Nah, i dont know much about sewing, but i am a natural at kniting, well not exactly but i have knit lots of blankets for my animals like some of the blankets meantioned above, i knit lots of those, mostly in the winter when i have more time.
I already took the pics of the coop, i just forgot to post them, whoops... Hold on one sec...

Wow that took longer than i thought, oh well, here are the pics:

Ok, thats the roostng room, i know, its not what you expected, anyway, it need to be cleaned...

That is some of the coop.

This is some more of the coop, the chickens like to hide in the bush at the back, thats why it has a hole in it... Oh and those pieces of wood are nests.

And some more of the coop, let my guess, its not what you expected?

I love your coop! To tell you the truth I think id like to make me a new one like yours! The concrete blocks would be perfect here! Cool in the summer and thick enough to hold heat in the winter, plus theyd be sturdy enough to hold up to the storms we get here! Youve got my wheels turning now with new ideas! I like how your chickens have that big bush to hide in too. Thats what I wanted when I started planting stuff in my run but most of it got ate by them before it got big enough to serve its purpose! I love all the big rocks too!
Your lucky it doesnt get so cold there! Every winter I feel like all I do is worry if everyone is warm enough! The cardboard boxes are a good idea. I tead that and it gave me an idea, im going to piece together a bunch of em into one big box that will fit exactly into the roosting room, then I can fill it with the hay and straw and when it gets dirty ill just replace it. Plus itll help block any kind of drafts too. Lol, I got all kinds of good ideas from you last posts! Thanks for the happy birthday. I just try and treat it like another day tho, when I hit my 30th I just decided to leave it at that!
Ive been watchin for eggs but none yet. I hope they dont start laying them out in the yard somewhere! I cant seem to keep a few of em in the coop and run even after I trimmed their wings. Ginger and georgie and pickles have never stayed in there but i never tried to keep them in just cause theyre so wild in the first place. Ive found nests of their eggs in the barns before, so im going to start looking out there too just in case.Looking around the yard for eggs would be a fun job for evie and emma!
Lol, I expect it was DEFINITELY the eggs and all the spoiling midnite and tweetie got that has them bigger than everone else! They probably started crowing so soon so they could get your attention quicker when they wanted something! :)
Neat! You knit? Thats awesome! Ive never quite gotten the hang of knitting but I LOVE to crochet!

Yeah, exactly, someone that finally gets me, everyone else is like "the concrete blocks will just make it cold" but if they go in there than it holds the heat and because it is pretty small they all huddle up which keeps the heat in even better...
The carboard boxes are a really good idea but with Tweeties new coop it is hard to get it in and out, i built Midnight a new one too, he now has a girlfriend, i have to take pictures but i have a cold... *sniff sniff*
Dont treat it like every other day, just pretend that you are turning thirty again!
Crochet, oh no no no no, i have no idea how to crochet but knitting is pretty easy, i have started again, i almost have a whole blanket ready! Let me go take some pics of Tweetie and Midnight, one sec...

Lol, me appreciating the pros of concrete blocks comes from having a contractor for a mate the last 11or so years! I wish wed been chatting when I was down the street at the trailer! A concrete coop down there would have been a great idea! It would have been predator proof! I cant imagine that any of them would have been able to break thru those blocks! Ive been sketching some ideas and I thought itd b cool to make a stone cottage coop. Jim said after the blocks are up I could get some paneling that looks like stones and attatch it to the outside and that it wouldnt be hard to put a couple windows on either side of the door. Plus I could put a thatched roof over the real roof and plant chicken friendly plants in the thatching. Ill show you a pic of my idea when I redraw it. Im excited, i think its going to be super neat. It might be a bit over the top but I dont care!
Oooh! Midnites got a girlfriend now huh? Lol. Who did you decide to put with him? Or did he pick her out?
im sorry your sick! I hope you get better soon! Bundle up with Roxy and knit! I wish I could get the hang of it! Thats so funny, you say knitting is easy and not the crochet and im just the opposite! Ive got all kinds of different knitting needles and books about learning to do it and no matter how hard I try, it just never works. I can sit and crochet without even having to hardly think about it tho. Im so jealous, Lol.
Take a pic of your blanket when you get it done! Id love to see it!
Ill let you go for now! Get to feeling better!

Forgive me for not sending the pictures, i just got carried away with something else...
That sounds fantactis, i am glad we can swap ideas like this, both of our coops will look better because of each other!
hugs.gif

I am going to go take pictures while i am replying so that i dont forget! Phew, i got them... I will post them when i am done replying.
Everything here is made with those cement blocks, the houses, the walls, everything.
I put a nice little speckled poulet with him, he is very happy now, Tweetie is very sad though, i will have to find one for him as well, i dont know who though, he acts like the tough guy but he is tiny so i have to find one to put him in his place but that wont hurt him...
Yeah, i am the same with kniting, i have made a couple of scarfs, i can take pictures of those and the blanket (when i am done)...
I am all better now, only 3 days, it didnt really hold me back, thats good.... Ok and now for pictures! ;)
