Is is Layed or Laid?

Quote:
Thanx! I've seen it both ways so often - I thought maybe it was different in regards to laying an egg. I know the proper usage to say someone "laid" down to rest, etc.
I've been thinking about ordering some customized egg carton labels, and just wanted to get it right!

(Or maybe I'm just reading too many old poultry books published in the UK!)

the reason I use the old english version is the bad association of the way the new spelling is currently used in place of the generally accepted word.

Brilliant, just BRILLIANT.

There are some for sale in the BST section - I was just thinking I'd rather have her spell it the other way "Layed with Love".

Y'all get your minds out of the gutter, sheesh! Many proper English words have been soiled by their modern day slang usages and I won't go into that, but gee whiz, people.

That said, it doesn't bother me if someone writes "layed". They're just being old-fashioned, right?
