Is it damaging to move the 2 month olds from outside in the day to the

bathroom in the house at night? We are only doing this because there house is not finished yet. The coupe is done and they are out in the day, but they have nowhere to sleep, so we bring them into the house at dusk. But when moved in here, they seem to be upset. Are they acting like this because they are confused about where "home" is? Is it going to damage them mentally or is it good for them to get used to different environments? I guess it really doesn't matter now we have been doing it for a couple weeks and there house will be done tomorow but I am just curious. People have told me that there chickens just stroll right into the house and hop up on there lap, so I don't understand why they get upset. Thanks.

the coop is done or the run? if the coop is done lettem sleepin it even if you don't have roost yet, my coop is done but run is a long story and gettin longer. but i let them sleep in the coop they have been going in on their own i just close the door

Yes the run (6 by 6 by 6) is done, they are safe from predators. We are building the coupe (where they will sleep and lay eggs). They have a roost to sleep on but as the sun gets low they start yelling at me. I figure they are telling me they want to go to bed, so i bring there tub over and they jump in. They don't seem to know to go into the run. We don't know if they are ready to go out yet because there down is still coming in (they have a couple of thin spots). The problem is that we dont know exactly how old they are. I guess tonight would have been a good night to do it because it is still about 90 degress out at 9pm. It was hoooot today.

I think what is being asked is...is the coop complete enough for them to sleep in closed up for safety at night?

I would not leave them out in the open run all night but if the coop os secure but incomplete, let them sleep in it. Can you run an extension cord to it with a light if they are not ready for the dark yet?

You are not going to damage them mentally by bringing them in at night right now. My girls are 8 weeks old and come in at night...they fuss but settle down for sleep then they fuss in the morning to go outside.

All chickens (and birds in general) go a little nuts as the sun goes down. It's a bird thing. Doesn't matter where they are, they all have a few minutes of major commotion before bed, so don't let that alone influence your decision. I had moved mine back and forth too, for a few days, and decided it was best for them to just stay outside. Less stress for all involved. Good luck!
