Is it even cocci?? Cocci oh my! Why cant I seem to get rid of it?!

Does it sound like cocci to you guys at all? Theyre not and have never been sickly acting or looking, just that loose brown very stinky poo.

It doesn't sound like Coccidiosis & the droppings don't look diagnostic either. If I were you I'd stop the Sulfa drug you're giving them. That stuff is hard on the kidneys if given too long or in too high a dose.

What are you feeding?
Are there other symptoms or are you just concerned about the droppings?

Yay! I'm so glad that those pictures helped you. If you do a search for "ceacal," you can find quite a few suggestions from older posts for helping out with the odor problem.

I got that link to the pictures from another wonderful BYC-er when my chicks did have cocci. It is so helpful, and it really eases the mind to have better understanding of what is a sign of disease and what isn't.

I hope you'll start giving them all the good gut-repairing stuff everyone talks about. That sulmet sounds hard on the digestive tract.

Yeah iam def. stopping the medication right now. They havent had any since yesterday and I'll not give anymore. There's just nothing wrong with them.

Coccidia is everywhere and usually lives harmlessly in the intestines. If an animal is stressed, young, old, sick, or otherwise compromised then coccida could multiply and cause infection.
As the babies grow they develop an immunity over time.

If your birds are SICK, give antimicrobials/antibiotics. If they are strong and well and have no pasty vents, you may do better using probiotics and adding a little feed grade DE to the food.
I was sooo glad to see the probiotic solution on this thread! Thank you.

Alpacas can have very sensitive digestive systems and they absolutely NEED their probiotics to digest their food.
Whenever I see mushy stool (minor) I have good luck adding DE to the food.

That said, the only other thing that can cause dark brown sticky poop is e-coli, which I've heard that daily probiotics for a few days should fix without further need for drugs.

So, get them on some probiotics anyway, and they should be right as rain.

In future, if you're wondering if something is cocci or worms, a vet can do a fecal float for you for pretty cheap as long as you can find one willing to let you just bring in the poo (rather than having to bring the chicken to the office for a checkup). Your best bet is whatever vet you use for your other pets/stock, they can often be talked into it. I pay like $20 for a fecal, here.

I'm no expert either but I suspected the same thing in my chicks. I gave them yogurt for several days mixed with medicated chick feed. Currently they are on non-medicated. I have also added apple cider vinegar to their water. I have treated using corrid. Advice taken from members here. They are all back to normal (pretty much) and are happy again!
